ePSXe 1.70 has been released after nearly 5 years since 1.60 so far it seems buggy as I have all the lod plugins and the developers forgot to include zlib1.dll that is required :-(

I will let you know if it still works on GameZone.

Cheers

First quick try with Gamezone and ePSXe 1.7:

In the gamezone configuration menu.
- Pointer to ePSXe can be redirected to the 1.7 executable.
- dropdown options for sound and CDrom have no options to select
- the ePSXe GUI button still opens the 1.6 version not the 1.7 version.

If you 'manually' configure 1.7 (i.e. directly through the ePSXe.exe using the wizard then the required settings can be entered.)

I could play games on 1.7 that didn't work under 1.6. Controller support is better. Including analogue. The set up wizard also advises what settings to try with different graphics and operating systems.

These comments apply to ePSXe when called directly as well as through Gamezone.
- windows screen saver kept coming on during play EDIT- this can be corrected in the video config menu
- occasionally the screen would freeze while audio and 'play' continued then it would comeback and work fine again. Could this be a priority issue. EDIT - This was addressed by choosing a different video plugin

Overall it 'mostly' works Big Grin

Custom case made very quiet. Zalman CPU cooler.
Sits in rack with other HiFi.

ParaLED to show tuner activity.

I seem to recall that there is a plugin directory, GameZone looks for specific filenames and if found populates the CDROM and SOUND lists accordingly, expect that the plugins are either not there of they have different names.

Thats strange, cant recall what I actually do here, but if you have both 1.6 and 1.7 installed together then this couldd mean a new key in the registry is created for v1.7 this could cause all sorts of issues.

Ouch thats nasty is there any forum with mention of this issue? and possible solution?

Without the last issue I would look to adding v1.7 support, guess I may wait a bit until more information regarding its benfits and bugs are available before I commit to an update.

Thanks for the detailed feedback Big Grin

Can't see it mentioned on the ePSXs forum - it may be a quirk with my set up. I will try some other graphics plug-ins. It would be good if some other testers could confirm if they see the same thing?

I have had at one time seen a problem similar to what you described.

Quote:- occasionally the screen would freeze while audio and 'play' continued then it would comeback and work fine again. Could this be a priority issue.

I saw this on 1.60 and only occured when I was also recording a program at the same time as an epsxe game was being played. I resolved this by changing the background - foreground application priority to background, seems strange but it resolved issues I was seeing in the recorded media and seemed to help with the frezzing and sudden accelaration of the epsxe games.

I will add epsxe 1.70 to my main PC in the next few days and see if it works fine here. it is used almost everyday by my Grandson so I am sure It will be brought to my attention if there is a problem Big Grin

Sounds like you have the perfect tester there! Wink

I tried another (non GBPVR) machine and found that while it did not have the freezing it was very jerky in the video. I used a different graphics plugin and it worked fine. It may be a case of finding exactly the right plugin for your system. Sounds a bit like video and audio playback filters doesn't it. Smile

The observation noted at my first look at 1.7 have been addressed with some setup configuration changes. Now with several hours and several games I have not seen any issues with this release. -

Theres a few other changes that need sorting so they will be done at the same time

Just FYI, thank you for continuing to support this project. I know it's not easy to support pet projects outside of work/school, so thanks!
