I found a crazy bug, when i install this my cpu goes up to 100% i looks like mcsheild.exe is running, whiich is macfee firewall. i don't know why it would effect this. Beats me, but when i remove the plug in and the archive folder all is well..

Someone else reported this in the past. GB-PVR reads from the gbpvr.mdb file very frequently. This causes the creation (and subsequent deletion) of the gbpvr.ldb file, which it seems mcafee is continuously trying to virus scan.

You may need to configure your virus scanner to somehow exclude this directory, or these files.

In VirusScan "Help" type in search for "exclude"
The following popped up in my version. Yours may be different.

"Many of the files stored on your computer are not vulnerable to virus infection. Having the System Scan module examine these files can take a long time and produce few results. You can reduce the time the System Scan module spends looking at each file you modify by restricting it to examining only susceptible file types. You can also tell the module to ignore entire files or folders that you know cannot become infected.

The exclusion list identifies which disks, folders, or individual files you want to exclude from VShield scan sessions. By default, the System Scan module does not scan the Recycle Bin because Windows will not run items stored there. This item, therefore, will appear in the list when you first open the window.
Each entry in the exclusion list displays the path to the item, notes whether the module will also exclude any nested folders within the target, and explains whether the application will exclude the item when it scans files, when it scans your hard disk boot sector, or both.

Once you use VirusScan software to scan your system thoroughly, you can tell the System Scan module to ignore those files and folders that do not change or that are not normally vulnerable to virus infection.

To do so, follow these steps:

1 Click Add to exclude a new item.

This opens the Add Exclude Item dialog box. To learn about how to specify items you want to exclude during scan sessions, click here
:
By default, you can exclude up to 100 unique scan targets. To change this number, open the VirusScan control panel, click the Components tab, then enter a new figure in the Maximum number of exclude items text box.

2 Select one of the items shown, then click Edit to change the item definition.

This opens the Edit Exclude Item dialog box. Make the changes you need, then click OK to close the dialog box.

3 Select one of the items shown, then click Remove to delete an item from the list. This means that the System Scan module will scan the item during this scan session.

4 Next, you can:

Click Apply to save your configuration options without closing the System Scan Properties dialog box.

Choose other configuration options. Click any of these buttons to learn how to configure options in the remaining property pages:

Detection options
Action options
Alert options
Report

Click OK to save your configuration options and close the System Scan Properties dialog box.

Click Cancel to close the dialog box without saving your changes.

Clicking Cancel will not undo any changes you already saved by clicking Apply."

In this version of the plug-in I load all the skin file information, load all the archive file informaiton, cache the GBPVR recording information, and search for DVD files in the specified directories and load their informaiton then the plug-in is first created (thatis, when GBPVR is starting up) so that subsequent activatations of the plug-in are very fast, which is important to prevent time-outs on the MVP. The plug-in also maintains its own DB and does read it as recordings or DVDs are created or removed, which will also cause .ldb files to be created. I agree with the above suggestions that exclusing these from your virus scan would be a good idea. They usually are only around for a few seconds. It takes longer to scan them than the file will live for.

Pity for you [Image: biggrin.gif] ; there are lots of neat things in this plug-in that make managing your recordings much easier.

I did a quick google search and it seems that lots of people have had problems with mcsheild.exe chewing up 100% of their CPU. What version are you running? The McAfee web help site

JeffMcAfee Support Forums might be able to help you.

You also might try checking the just scan program files options and run GBPVR again to see if the .ldb files are indeed the problem. it would also let you at least play around with the Video Archive plug-in to see if you like it enough to try to invest the time to solve the problem with the virus scan program.

jeff how about this could you build a version just to use your plugin as a video plugin, i have mvp and not capture source i get my videos from extraction from tivo, only for my use of course. So i really don't use the archive pending recording, i only like how your plugin looks and works. I really just want to use it as a video plugin, i know they are alot of other plugin such as reven's which is his is awesome, but just like to have different looks you know. If not thanks for your help....

The plug-in doesn't actually do the archiving any more (itr just displays them) so it really just is a video plug-in; some day I should rename the plug-in. The archiving is done by an external utility run from the postepgupdate.bat file.

I also just use an MVP, which is why I changed the plug-in to cache everything at start-up. This make it very fast thereafter. The only time it refreshes its cache is when you make new recordings or convert a new DVD to MPG format (iin which case the cahce refreshes automaticallyt in the background when the new file appears in the recording dirctory) or when you deletes files. Other than that it shouldn;t be hitting the disk and shouldn;t be making .ldb files.

Would you mind setting your virus progem to just scan program files and see if the problem goes away? I would be curious to know. You could also look in the "jeff" sub directoty and emial me any logs you find. That might show something. One idea I have is that I could change the plug-in to open the database and leave it open rather than opening and closing it around each access. That might cut down on the virus scans from many to one depending upon what it is that causes it to scan.

Also, to get the full effcet of the plug-in you should run the getdvdinfo and gettvinfo utilieis once before first running the plug-in. That will pull all the images that can be found for your shows from the Internet. I think these images will be used by Reven's plug-in too so it won;t be a waste of your time if the Archive plug-in doesn;t work for you.
