Am I reading the wiki correctly:

GB-PVR currently supports the following decoders:

* InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge
* NVIDIA Video Decoder
* CyberLink Video/SP Decoder
* Elecard Mpeg2 Video Decoder
* MainConcept MPEG Video Decoder
* Sonic Cinemaster DS Video Decoder

So I cannot simply use the Microsoft MPEG-2 Decoder I already have?

Does anyone know a free decoder that works with GBPVR?

I can watch live tv in PVRx2 and play back GBPVR recordings with Windows Vista Media center, but I get

The config.xml file contains a list of decoders it'll look for, including the Microsoft one. Several of these are free decoder (MPV, Dscaler, ffdshow, gplmpg). You can add additional ones to the list if you need to.

So should it be working with the Microsoft MPEG-2 Video Decoder? Any idea why I'm getting the error code?

What error? That message you posted above isnt necessarily an error. Do you see any error message on the screen (not just in the log file)?

When I select play, the screen flashed black for a second and then it just comes back to the prior PVRx2 screen. No I do not get an error message on the screen, it just fails to play. When I check the log I saw the above.

Was that file recorded with GB-PVR, or MCE?

You probably wont be able to play video files recorded by MCE due the DRM.

It was recorded by GB-PVR. But I can only play it back with MCE.
