Using a Hauppauge 900H to tune into DVB-T broadcasts. This has been working well. But lately trying to add an epg source to found that (coincidentally?) that my 900H is randomly failing.

This is the scenario

Added an epg source to the DVB-T tuner. Scheduled a recording. gbpvr starts recording at the right time but writes 0 bytes to the HD. Then a minute or two later starts writing another file (suffixex -1 in the name) again with zero bytes.

Now all recordings fail on that device. So removed the device, added it back and rebooted. With no epg defined, it records fine.

But now things are getting worse. gbpvr is no longer recording on that source (well creates zero byte files) and occasionally this will be corrected if I reboot the PC. As you can imagine this is hardly satisfactory.

Also I have noticed what when it's not recording and I go into config and rescan channels it finds none. That might explain why there are zero bytes being captured. But remove the source, exit config and go back and when added again, it finds the channels. But a manually scheduled recording still fails unless I reboot the PC.

Happy to post logs and all that but not sure which ones would be of use

Thanks

USB sticks can sometimes be a bit troublesome. From the lack of channel found during a scan when its in this same state, it does sound like its stopped function. If thats the case, there is probably nothing GB-PVR can do about it. Try removing the device and inserting it.

I'm happy to look at a GBPVRRecordingSerivce.exe.log and GBPVRRecordingSerivce.exe-native.log to see if there is any clues.

I removed the USB stick and inserted a few times but it didn't fix the problem. I have now moved the stick to a different USB port. It seems to be working now but I am also reluctant to try adding an EPG since the act of adding en epg seems to cause the stick to stop working again.

The logs are attached if they make any sense.

Sorry, there is no sign of any errors in your logs.

Thanks. The only thing I could see in the logs was some note about, file seems too small, trying again. This would explain what I get files named program_name_yyyymmddhhmmss.ts and program_name_yyyymmddhhmmss-1.ts both with zero bytes in them.

Looks like the HVR900H is dropping out, there is no signal for gbpvr to record, it notes that the file has no data in it and tries once more.

Annoying it's random also. So perhaps the answer is to ditch the 900H and go for a Nova-T card instead?

I thought you also had an HVR-3000. Plug that in and give it a try.

No sold that because it wouldn't fit in the case

I've had problems with USB devices failing like this on certain ports.

If it works on one port but not another try uninstalling the device and get windows to detect and reinstall the drivers again for that port.

I have moved it to another port and it seems okay but last night it started a recording, stopped and restarted. The error log shows something about file too small, restarting recording and I have two files xxx.ts and xxx-1.ts, the first with 0 bytes and the second with the program recorded. Looks like I am having intermittent failture with the USB device. The first time gbpvr found no data to record so the USB device wasn't working, moments later the card started up and gbpvr recorded fine.

Am going to see if I can get a Nova-T to try out.

I am getting random (infrequent) failures of this HVR-900H where it stops becoming recognised and gbpvr just records 0 byte files. The only way out is to reboot and of course I lose bits of the program I am recording.

Have tried two other USB ports with no success. I now plan to replace this and wondering how reliable the HAUPPAUGE WINTV NOVA T 500 HD is.

Can gbpvr use this card and record two channels at the same time?

Thanks
