Since the unpredictability of time seeking isn't going away any time soon, how can we deal with files that have the most problems? Some can't skip, FF or anything at all. I tried running them through tsremux but it didn't make a difference.

Does anyone know of any programs that can help out (at least with the worst ones?)

I doubt if remuxing is going to fix the problem, it is more likely TS4NP or TSDoctor which I have discussed before with some of the 1.2.13 patches in this thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=36250

The latest local clear QAM changes here have made digital tv a waste of recording time, so I don't have any samples to play with anymore or to give Syabas and I'm not having problems with analog recordings. If you want to upload some really bad samples (with enough of a sample to show the problem) to one of the free upload servers like megaupload, rapidshare or mediafire, I will add it to the sample I test with the betas and pass the link on to Syabas too.

You could try VideoReDo. Even without any editing, it will correct timestamps. They have a free trial, so you can check and see if it works for your files. I'm assumng you're dealing with mpeg2 transport streams and not h264.

My recordings (all hour long) are ~7GB, so I can't upload any since those file sharing sites have a 100MB file size limit. (even the half hour ones are to big).

I never have issues w/ analog anymore either. I use to before I set my PVR 500 to record at a constant bitrate. W/ the HDPVR, it's set at variable, but the averate bitrate is 13Mb/s w/ peak of 13.5Mb/s so it's close to constant which seems to help (can you set the HDPVR to constant?)

One thing Syabas could easily do (at least I think it should be easy - granted I don't write video playback software) is when pressing play after FF just begin playing at 1x speed instead of trying to do a timeseek. Then at least FF would work on files recorded w/ variable bitrate.

Yes - MPEG2 transport streams.

H264 is a little off, but not as bad - I think it's because when you set the HDPVR to record near it's max bitrate, it's almost like recording constant.

From the sounds of things since you can't help with files, you should stop using the TS Mux until someone else does. Either that or post-process the files to mpeg-ps.

The problem IMHO is not the time stamp it is how the libraries handle many ts files.

It wasn't just the TS Mux - I tried several Cyberlink Muxes & it was worse - on top of time seeking being out of wack, often audio would get way out of sync.

TS Mux gives me the most consistent recordings - and usually, if I bring up the progress bar & determine how far behind timeseek is, I can work around it. However, once in a while, I get one where it doesn't even permit skipping & it shows the recording size as 28 minutes for an hour recording - even though the whole show is there & I can watch it if I sit through everything.

How would I get my hands on ts4np or tsdoctor? I did some searches & found tons of references to them, but couldn't come up w/ any download locations.

I found them on the NMT forum with one search. Here's some direct downloads.

If you want to mail me a DVD I can get the files to Syabas. PM me for my address.
