Hi Guys,

I started on a HTPC a couple months ago but side tracked by work, life
in general, and a Seagate 750 gb SATA drive that just refuses to work
for any length of time.

I tried GBPVR, SageTV, and BeyondTV. I prefered GBPVR, but the remote
that came with my tuner card did not work properly with it. If I
set it to Hauppage in the configuration it hardly worked. If I set it
to MCE then it worked better but not 100%. This was actually why I
tried the other programs - I just didn't want to mess with making the
remote work!

I finally got time to work on the HTPC again and then the dangblasted
Seagate drive went out again! GRRR!

OK, I sent the Seagate back to Seagate for replacement and installed
an old ide drive and decided to play.

I decided while I was playing with software I should try Windows Media
Center too. I loaded up Windows Vista Ultimate since it had Media
Center in it and I wanted to work with Vista a bit too.

I like Vista Media Center, but I DON'T like DRM so I decided to try
GBPVR again and see if I could get the darn remote to work.

The remote I have is the Hauppauge model 1062 that's pictured on this
link:

I ran across this thread and was able to use it to get my remote
working GREAT!

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?p=263455

There were a few things that needed clarified though . . .

*) When you unzip the zip file attached to the message it creates
a folder with the files in it -> this wont work as the files need to be in
the GBPVR folder so just cut and paste them into the proper folder.

All this does is put GBPVR In the Vista Media Center menu so you can
take or leave it, it's not really relevant to just getting the remote
working.

*) Next was to keep the remote from trying to run Vista Media Center
when you are in GBPVR or other programs. To do this you disable
ehtray.exe and the instructions for that were clear and worked
perfectly.

When you have this done the remote will no longer pull up Vista Media
Center, but if you launch Vista Media Center manually it will function. If you
load GBPVR it will work there too without interference from Vista
Media Center ... well ... if GBPVR is set to a MCE remote it will mostly
work but not all the buttons work correctly.

*) To make the remote work perfectly you must set GBPVR to Hauppauge
remote -> this is important, it doesn't work if it's not!

Then install the LM Remote keymap program. It's simple and easy to
use so I wont cover how to use it, just follow the directions provided
with the software.

When using LM Remote keymap choose the Media Center remote (when in
LM Remote keymap, leave it set to Hauppauge in GBPVR). It's
very similar in key layout to the Hauppauge remote and so far all the
keys of the same label seem to work fine. Note there are some added
colored keys on the MCE remote the Haupagge doesn't have, but you just
end up with four less buttons and everything else works great.

When using LM Remote keymap just set the remote keys to send
keystrokes that emulate keyboard keystrokes. The GBPVR keyboard
shortcuts are listed here:

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manua...dReference

I hope this helps others get these remotes working - they are a common
remote and it's frustrating they don't work with GBPVR out of the box, but it
turns out to be a very simple fix!

Take Care,

Steve

Update:

When using LM Remote Keymap I found the ESC key on the keyboard didn't work! I could assign ESC to a remote key though. I was just playing with GBPVR at this point with a 40gb ide drive as I was waiting for a replacement for a Seagate 750gb that had been DOA (actually I had TWO DOA!). Once the 750gb drive arrived I reloaded everything and this time not only would the ESC on the keyboard not work, but I couldn't assign it to a key on the remote either! GRRR! I hit the net and found a series of posts by the program author on another forum, I'll condense them here:

When running the Lm Remote, my esc key no longer works on my keyboard! Any Ideas?

Yes, the "ESC" key is the "Clear" button on the remote. On the default profile nothing is assigned to this button. So to resolve the problem :

* remove the blank "KeyStroke" action
* add a "PressKey" action, with the Virtual Key Code "Escape"

This will resolve the problem. If you want to totally disable the "Clear" button as well as the "Ok" button for the default profile, then click on the "Setup Remote" button in the main Window and uncheck "Enable customization of the Ok button in the default profile."

The MCE Remote is for some buttons a keyboard and for some buttons a HID device.

In order for my application to customize the remote, without messing with your system or remote drivers, it must listen to:

* the keyboard input
* the HID input

When listening to the keyboard, my software don't know if the key press comes from the remote or the keyboard. So for the MCE remote buttons : arrows, numbers, Ok (enter), clear (escape), Volume Up, Volume Down, Stop, Back, Prev Track, Next Track, the key press is blocked by my application and translated to the action(s) in the active remote profile.

Note: the "Clear" button, is the only key that wasn't assigned a default action in the default profile, all other usual keyboard keys are assigned a default action.

Sooo, applying the fix the author gave got my remote working again. Why I didn't need to do the fix to get it working the first time I dunno, but now the keyboard and remote work!

/Steve
