i've had gb-pvr livetv working on another machine previously using stinky's mpeg2 codec.

on this machine, i could not get it to work, checked available codecs, and only cyberlink codec available. This was after installing stinky's.

i uninstalled and reinstalled stinky's, and also tried a different codec. still, only the cyberlink would show. (and this one does not work)

i've tried uninstalling powerdvd, which removes the cyberlink codec, and so no codecs show. I've tried reinstalling stinky's after that with no progress.

no matter what i seem to do livetv is blank black screen and the cache file does begin to load, but after about 400 mb it stops. livetv doesn't seem to repond to any keypresses once it begins.

It'll only list decoder which I've tried. You can easily add it to the list of possible decoder by editing the master list in config.xml

does this indicate the decoders gb found on my sys?

config.exe.log:

1/8/2005 4:01:59 PM.390 VERBOSE [7] Checking if DVD DirectShow filter is available: InterVideo Video Decoder
1/8/2005 4:01:59 PM.437 VERBOSE [7] Checking if DVD DirectShow filter is available: NVIDIA Video Decoder
1/8/2005 4:01:59 PM.453 VERBOSE [7] Checking if DVD DirectShow filter is available: CyberLink Video/SP Decoder
1/8/2005 4:01:59 PM.468 VERBOSE [7] Checking if DVD DirectShow filter is available: MainConcept MPEG Video Decoder
1/8/2005 4:01:59 PM.484 VERBOSE [7] Checking if DVD DirectShow filter is available: Sonic Cinemaster® DS Video Decoder

I've seen that the MainConcept decoder is listed in supported, and i also keyed it into config.xml as the preferred:

1/8/2005 4:01:59 PM.500 VERBOSE [7] getValue() loading new key/value into cache: /settings/SupportedDecoders
1/8/2005 4:01:59 PM.500 VERBOSE [7] getValue: /settings/SupportedDecoders : InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge,InterVideo Video Decoder,CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (ATI),NVIDIA Video Decoder,CyberLink Video/SP Decoder,Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder,Moonlight-Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder,MainConcept MPEG Video Decoder,MainConcept (Hauppauge) MPEG Video Decoder,Sonic Cinemaster® DS Video Decoder
1/8/2005 4:01:59 PM.500 VERBOSE [7] getValue() loading new key/value into cache: /settings/PreferredDecoder
1/8/2005 4:01:59 PM.500 VERBOSE [7] getValue: /settings/PreferredDecoder : MainConcept MPEG Video Decoder

i still don't see it in config.exe and get the same response from gbpvr as before [Image: sad.gif]

GB checks you machine for each one in the SupportedDecoders list. Each one that is found is listed in the config app. The name must *exactly* match the installed decoder including the case, or it wont be found (and added to the list of available decoder).

No, that means GB-PVR is CHECKING if the filters (decoder) is available on your machine. The ones that are found are shown on in the list in config app.

It should work, but there is all sort of stuff you could have your machine that could stop it working. The Cyberlink decoder works great on my machine. Usual suspects for what might stop it working would include FFDShow, or downloaded "Codec packs" from the internet (which are usually garbage and clag-up your machine with shitty codecs that disturb the smooth running of directshow).

I have sometimes seen audio decoder cause the playback graph to freeze, so you could also try a few combinations of those.

i removed ffd, divx, xvid, and ac3 - didn't see anything else but unfortunately that didn't work. Do you know how I can see all installed codecs?

Thank you for your responses sub.

The GraphEdit utility will let you see their names. Google should find it.

I'm trying to figure out graphedit- I tried rendering the tv cache in it but it said the format is not supported. Does that mean I am missing codecs?

tv cache: "Copy of Local Origination_1_20050109_06001000.mpg"

i was able to render a VOB OK and also the video portion of an (xvid?) AVI file. (after reinstalling divx)

previously the avi gave me a different error- i'm going to try to render an mpg2 to see what it will do, and maybe uninstall divx again to see exactly what error it gave me.
