vmr9 fullscreen exclusive unstable?

Until recently I was using the elecard decoder (ran ok for me), but the trial ran out so I switched back to PDVD8. This (in a windowed mode on my PC screen) would stutter every 4-5 seconds, not badly but enough to irritate.
I switched to vmr9 fullscreen exclusive and this has offered the smoothest playback (except for some bad TS recordings, see other threads). However:

1) it seems unstable and earlier tonight I even had my entire system freeze (during choppy playback of a TS file), requiring me to press reset.
2) Last night when I exited playback, the pvrx2 menus were frozen, but thankfully I was able to click exit and it responded.
3) Pretty much every time I exit pvrx2, it fails to cleanup the display and I have to refresh my desktop.

See attached screenshot (I took after (2) and it also exhibits problem (3)).

Sorry, I feel I keep raising nothing but bug reports, but I keep finding problems. Sad
I have a totally new htpc, nicely spec'd hardware and fresh OS install on a clean hard drive with very little on it - mainly gbpvr (plus vnc, iMon, PowerCinema[don't use], avgfree, seamonkey...), so there should not be many other factors in my problems.

Odd, I have found it to be very stable.
On 2, are you sure that GB-PVR didn't lose focus? That happens to me sometimes. Just click on GB-PVR to re-establish focus, then the remote works again. Annoying.
On 3, happens all the time to me. I just click 'show desktop' in QuickLaunch, and it goes away. Not sure why it happens, but doesn't seem to cause any real issues.

Sorry, the left over GB-PVR screenafter exiting the app is apparently pretty common on XP. I'm not really sure why it happens, and not sure how to fix it. It doesnt bother me too much - I'm running on Vista Big Grin

I have seen your problem #1 multiple times with VMR9 FSE and XP. This is particularly annoying since the only workaround I've found thus far is hard reset, although I have another thread discussing ways to kill zombie PVRX2.EXE without a screen session.

Don't know if I ever saw #2.

I see #3 fairly regularly but it doesn't bother me.

#3 all the time for me (XP) as well. I try not to exit pvrx2 Wink
only saw #1 once, when a bad TS caused a reboot during playback. Now that was exciting. Wife comment: "Hmm. The TV usually doesn't reboot when I'm watching it."

you can press refresh desktop
or run a kill process batch file

paste the following line into notepad then save as pvrx2kill.bat
taskkill /F /IM "pvrx2.exe"

i have it mapped to button on remote for when gbpvr stops responding (to lazy to try and find why it stops responding powerdvd8 seems worse than other decoders but it give me the best picture so i put up with the occasional freeze)

Yes, I can click on the desktop and refresh. But I thought I'd bring up the issue at the same time as the other things. Imho apps shouldn't leave artifacts on the desktops after they exit (I've used many fullscreen media viewers that don't). Maybe it's a .Net bug (gbpvr is .net, right?) .... I wouldn't rely on microsoft development api's working cleanly on a microsoft OS ;-)

seems to be more of an XP problem then .Net. On my Vista machine, it never happens.
Then again, XP is a bit long in the tooth, so certain 'eccentricities' are to be expected...
