I had GB-PVR running perfectly on my Vista 32 system for some time with Hauppauge PVR-150. Recently I decided to upgrade to Vista 64 to take advantage of the full 4 GB of RAM in my system. With Vista 32 because of the limitations of 32 bit operating system only about 3.3 GB was being used.

With Vista 64 however I simply not get Live TV on GB-PVR to run properly. On an initial cold start it would seem to run ok but if I quit and did other tasks and came back a couple hours later I couldn't get any picture although sound was ok. By trying many different configuration settings I could vary from no sound no picture, picture but no sound, or my favorite, both picture and sound with an extreme stutter and outright freezing. Rebooting would return everything to normal with good Live TV but again after a while it would fail. I thought this was a problem with GB-PVR and went through several reinstalls without success.

After a lot of searching I found the solution on a forum elsewhere (didn't see anything on this site although I might have missed it). Essentially, the driver for the Hauppauge PVR-150 does not work with Vista 64 if Vista 64 has 4+ Gig of memory. It's actually a flaw in Vista 64 which Microsoft has not fixed yet (and might never). Hauppauge could possibly have written a driver patch to fix the problem but they have chosen to do nothing but sit back and blame Microsoft. With the PVR-150 late in it's life cycle an updated driver appears unlikely now.

So, according to the information, as things stand the PVR-150 won't work properly with Vista 64 and 4+ Gig of memory. That being the case I pulled out one stick of memory taking my system down to 3 Gig, and voila! GB-PVR now works perfectly with all the problems I had previously been experiencing gone. I am kind of ticked though that I am forced to run on only 3 Gig of RAM. I am even more ticked at the lack of support for Vista 64 from both Microsoft and outside companies.

Anyway, my purpose in posting here was to highlite the problem, and the solution for anyone else who might trip over it in the hopes of saving them the frustrations that I went through in resolving this.
