I have 2 HVR-1600 cards that work great with all the analog signals, but sometimes when tuning to the digital channels it'll just display a black screen and then kick back to the TV Guide. When it's in this state it will only produce 0kb recordings however I can open WinTV and tune to the digital channels with no problems.

The only solution I've found is to reboot the machine but then it's only a matter of time before the digital channels stop tuning again.

Anyone know what could be causing this?

Check your config.xml and make sure the following settings match what I post:
Code:
<BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnLivePreview>[B][color=Red]true[/color][/B]</BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnLivePreview>
  <BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnRecord>[B][color=Red]true[/color][/B]</BDASubmitTuningRequestTwiceOnRecord>
  <BDADisableStatusChecks>[B][color=red]false[/color][/B]</BDADisableStatusChecks>
  <BDACheckSignalStatusDuringRecording>[B][color=red]1[/color][/B]</BDACheckSignalStatusDuringRecording>
If this doesn't solve it, zip and post your logs when it occurs.

Still seeing this issue after making the changes. I've attached a sample from Friday nights episode of Ghost Whisperer (for the wife, seriously).

The .ts files that resulted were two 0kb files.

This appears to only effect the digital channels as the analog channel that starts a recording right after the Ghost Whisperer recording came out just fine.

One other issue I'm seeing is when I try to play back a recording the time bar at the top zips right along well beyond realtime (almost like its in fast forward). The filesize looks right on these but they also refuse to play in VLC as well. I'm not sure at all if this would be related to whats causing the 0kb files, but I thought I'd mention it.

Happened again on last weeks episode of "Bones". One thing I did notice is that an SD show had a scheduled recording at the same time.

I haven't watched this quite closely enough to see if this only happens when SD shows are also scheduled to record but I'm fairly certain I've seen this happen when just one show on a digital channel is queued up to record. The files for the episode of Bones look about right for the size, but I just can't play it back. This also happened with an episode of "Family Guy" since it was recording from a digital source as well.

This is the "fast-forward" issue I'm referring to here, not the 0kb file output issue.

Thanks for all the help.

Still baffled with the "0kb recording" issue. All SD channel recordings are fine, only the digital ones are giving me problems. I've attached logs from Friday night where I had several shows result in a 0kb file.

Anyone have any ideas?

I think I may have figured out the 0kb issue.

Seems that all NBC shows were recording fine. Fox, CBS, and ABC shows were not being recorded properly. It would appear that my cable company has moved my QAM channels to another location. I'm going to do some scanning and see if this is true.

This might fix the one issue I'm having with 0kb recordings, but I still can't get my head around the "Fast Forward" problem.

smiley2billion - did you ever end up verifying the channel movement was causing your issues?
