I'm testing recording to a network share on a PC running Windows XP Professional and I keep on getting the following error:
Code:
2008-10-04 19:26:21.453    ERROR    [5]    Error starting recording: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\Server\Shared\test\That 70s Show' is denied.
   at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
at System.IO.Directory.InternalCreateDirectory(String fullPath, String path, DirectorySecurity dirSecurity)
   at System.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory(String path, DirectorySecurity directorySecurity)
   at GBPVR.RecordingService.x93f60a55016d55c4.xaf0c8a8cd1d45e20(ScheduledRecording xe41d2b9d98dc1269)
   at GBPVR.RecordingService.x93f60a55016d55c4.xcba1f05fb5a46d5f()

I've set permissions of the Shared folder to Full Control for:
Everyone
LOCAL SERVICE
NETWORK
NETWORK SERVICE
SYSTEM

Using the computer where GB-PVR is installed, I can create, copy, edit and delete folders and files on \\Server\Shared\test. I'm stumped as to why GB-PVR seems unable to create the files. I believe the GBPVRRecordingService is logged on as Local System.

GBPVR recording service should be set to a local user account, ie a user that can log on.

Computer based accounts, locat system etc, are not allowed to access network resources.

Sure they are, I do it from GBPVR to three shares including my Popcorn Hour when I'm testing. I need to enable guest access and use \\xx.xx.xx.xx instead of a named share.

*sigh* Figured that might be the case. Curiously enough, I was able to record to an unRAID share with GBPVRRecordingService logged on as "Local System". I wonder what makes recording to a shared folder on Windows with full permissions so different...

Whoops, missed this post. I guess "guest access" is the thing I was missing. Where do I need to enable it? The PC running GBPVR or the PC with the network share? Kinda guessing it's the latter but I want to make sure...

so it is possible to record onto the internal hdd of PCH? Please elaborate on how.

how do you enable guest access on PCH?
can i map the PCH internal drive on the gbpvr PC and put that as the destination folder or do i need to use \\xx.xx.xx.xx as the destination folder?

I enable the guest account by editing smb.conf and restarting samba but that's as deep an explanation as I want to get into.

If you use \\xx.xx.xx.xx notation and when GBPVR supports long filenames mvpmcx2 will automatically play any local file directly, without any configuration. A future version of mvpmc2 will support drive letters but they will need to be configured.

Please don't post question to me in this forum, I really only read the mvp/nmt forum thoroughly, and I happen across other messages sometimes by chance.

On a timely note someone did ask a question today about setting up the guest share http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showth...p?tid=9239
