I use a Compro S350 card which doesnt scan very well with GBPVR.

I have managed to format a file Martint123 uploaded a while ago from DVBViewer, and believe it wouldnt take much more work to convert to import straight into GBPVR.

Question is how often is a scan generally required, the cost of DVBViewer is only 15 Euros, but if I dont need to scan again then might not be worth it, but do I need to scan monthly for any reason?

I run a scan every now and then as my cable company does alot of changes without telling you..maybe they dont know themselves. But I have a card that works with the tuning wizard included with GBPVR. The software with the card tells me the channel frequency so do alot of other programs out there which support my card.

I dont know yours.

Mine is Haupauge 150 so it is very common and recommended here.

mattrobo I have other apps that scan correctly, but have to manually edit the scan cache file, as it's not possible to export from these other apps.

The ability to export from one app and import straight into GBPVR would be nice, but only required if scans are required often.

Only been using GBPVR a few weeks so unsure how often scans are needed.

Now I understand what you mean and yes you have to manually add the channel details. for me thats is not a problem because my cable company only gives me about 35 channels but if you are in other countries with digital you could have a few hundred!

Anyway if you protect the .db3 and the config.xml with your life and back them up and save them at a friends house type thing - then no matter what you do to GBPVR interms of adding plugins, deleting stuff, destroying it - like everyone does at the start - you can get all the channel settings back and all the recordings you have setup etc as they are conained in those files.

So to answer your question. If you add the channels manually once, back up those 2 files then you wont need to ever again. Periodically I check by scanning to see if the cable company has added more channels.

So I have only scanend once - that I will own up to - but on day 1 I did screw some settings so I know I have done it at least twice Smile

Ah, if only life were so easy Big Grin

I have a PVR150 as well and it is fairly easy to setup.

The problem is that the one we are having trouble with is a satellite tuner and beside there being 1000's of channels, there are quite a few things that have to be set for each channel.

Do you think it's worth trying?

Yes, I think it's worth it at present. If you want I could generate a big list of the non-encrypted channel ini file and send it to you.

I've been meaning to have a go at something to do a conversion, but time is a problem and I'd have to brush up on my ancient skills.

I'd hang fire a little at the moment though, just in case the new version "just round the corner" supports scanning a bit better than the current version - there's always hope.
