Hello.

Up till now i've actually been using Mediaportal, but I'm wondering whether to give GBPvr another go (I looked at it once before but before I got my sat cards).

Looking in some threads comparing the two I saw references to not being able to record two things at the same time - is this correct? Even if I have two tuner cards?

What am I likely to miss from Mediaportal that isn't in GBPVR? The reason I ask is I'm having issues at the moment with MP's TV Server service. It seems to be hanging and missing recordings on a bit of a regular basis, and the powers that be (wife) are getting frustrated. I'm sure it's fixable but wondering whether a switch of software is worth a go...

Wrong - I've had five simultaneous recordings at one point.

Sorry, can't make any comparisons with MP, I came here some time ago after looking at and giving up on myth.

Download is free and setup (of the basics) can be less than an hour. Maybe it's worth trying it out for yourself. If you have any specific questions then post again Smile

I think you're right - I can probably just stop the MP TV Service and database and install this to have a bash at without breaking anything... Smile

I have been using GBPVR for about three years. Every little while I install the most recent version of MP and uninstall it quite soon afterward.

GBPVR just works. GBPVR was alone in the house and recorded shows every day for three weeks while we were on holiday and hibernated the machine when it wasn't doing anything. We returned and everything had recorded as expected.

Good Luck

Spent many an hour with both and do tend to switch between them, MP has better eye candy (but gbpvr is catching up Smile ) overall though for me GBPVR is more reliable and just about to install the new version (fingers crossed it comes this weekend Wink )and go back to it as been trying Vista Media Center last couple of months and disappointed with how inflexible it is!

.

I think this is just referring to some tuner cards that offer (e.g.) DVB-T and analogue on one card. You can only record from analogue OR digital on these cards. Genuine dual tuner cards, or using more than one card would be fine for recording multiple channels at once.

Heh, indeed. It's odd, it worked reasonably reliably for a while but seems to have gone downhill recently. I don't mind - if it misses a recording I can usually find it on a torrent somewhere, but its not the point - killing off processes via task manager and so on is something that really shouldn't be needed on a 2-3 times a week basis.

Nemulate said there may be a new version this weekend? Any details?

It's just a rumour. No info is given before release. Mainly because if something is promised and then withdrawn because the pre-release testers found a problem with - people may get
