I thought I would post this incase someone else finds it useful.
There are a couple of ways to do this but this one works for my setup. I needed a way to switch to the Amplifier (SPDIF) for NPVR playback and for iTunes playback. I call iTunes from the NPVR menu for Music.
The two attached scripts select device 1 or device 2 in "Control Panel >> Sound" in Windows 7.
If you have more than two devices in "Control Panel >> Sound" then you can change the number of "DOWN" arrows in the script to select different devices.
I added these scripts as "Custom Tasks" in Settings >> Plugins and called them "Amp On" and "Amp Off".
Depending on your requirements you may also want to try Imline's AudioAdjust Plugin or the DPDT tool. DPDT worked intermittently for me.
If you have a slow system you may need to increase the sleep durations in the scripts.
