Hi grabbed the new msi install package of 1.3.7 and when trying to install it seems to lock up when the MSI*.tmp process has been started, which takes up all available cpu cycles. I have also tried to un-install the previous version, 1.2.13 but that also fails, again at the MSI*.tmp stage.

I have to use task manage to stop the install and then stop the .tmp process separately. Looking at the event viewer there are multiple lines showing the following.

Quote:Product: GB-PVR -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action Action1, location: C:\DOCUME~1\Chaos\LOCALS~1\Temp\MSI15.tmp, command:
This is really a bind as I've not come across this problem before and am eager to see how the new version performs.

All logs attached.

Corrupt .msi download? Although, if that were the case I'd be surprised if it tried to run at all. One possible indication of it being corrupt would be an incorrect size - my copy shows as 15,678,464 bytes.

Just clutching at straws really.

EDIT: I'm pretty certain the installer doesn't log to the normal GB-PVR files. To enable logging for the installer, try...

msiexec /i GBPVR10307.msi /l*v c:\gbpvr-1.3.7-installer.log

Ran across this yesterday as well. Found this command in another thread

sc delete "gb-pvr recording service"

Run it from a command prompt (be sure to be in admin mode if you've got Vista), then try the installer again.

Hi again, tried the sc delete "gb-pvr recording service", but made no difference. File size is correct btw.

Then tried running the other suggestion to get a installer log file, still failed at the same point of course, log file attached.

In the log it gives error 1722:confused: I have no idea.
It also complains about to little diskspace.
And it claims that it needs admin rights to run, I have no idea if that applies to your situation or that it is just a message.

HtV, I am wondering if it is a problem with the Wise installer requirements on my machine. I have tried to research this on the web but have no idea what to look at really. There is plenty of diskspace, I install as admin also.

I have installed other programs as a test since this problem showed up and they complete without problems. If anyone knows of another freeware program that uses this particluar installer, I would be happy to try installing that to see if that works or fails in the same way.

Thanks InverseChaos

My solution to a broken installer:
copy your entire gbpvr folder somewhere safe
Run revouninstaller in deep scan mode on GBPVR http://www.revouninstaller.com/ (it removed something like 3500 gbpvr-related registry entries on my machine!!)
Delete the entire Devnz original installation folder.
reinstall the previous version (1.2.13) so you can copy back your config.xml, gbpvr.db3, plugins* and skins folders etc. safely from your backup and return it to your original configuration.
check everything works(!)
then run the 1.3 installer which should hopefully upgrade seamlessly.
Hope that maybe of help.....

*some plugins might need a reinstall rather than just copying the plugins folder, and some keep important stuff not in the plugins folder (e.g. musiclibrary2 database) that you'll need to copy back seperately

Hi I have used Revo to try and uninstall gbpvr but it fails at the same point as using direct uninstall. I have deleted all gbpvr keys in the registry and also run CCleaner to fix any issues.

Result is that I still Cannot install the latest version, this now applies to the previous one as well.

I am totally at a loss as to what to try next.

Thanks.
