I've used my pvr 500 for a while and have the bit rate set to 9000 with audio set to 256. Recording a 1 hour program is always 4gb.....still is. But, with the same settings on my 2250, a 1 hour is just about 3GB. Why the difference? Mpegs in Media Center using the 2250 give me almost 4gb sizes.
Running each in Gspot to see what it shows actually has the smaller files at a higher VBR.
But, if both tuners are configured the same, should there be as much of a difference?

It probably wont account for the full difference, but the audio will definitely be part of the difference. GB-PVR is able to request the audio settings on the PVR500 - it is unable to do this on the HVR-2250 so you end up with what ever the audio defaults are on this device.

Looking back at Gspot, I see the smaller file shows the audio of as 0xc0:48000Hz 384 kb/s tot , Stereo while the larger mpeg file recorded with the pvr 500 as 0xc0:48000Hz 256 kb/s tot , Stereo. Shouldn't the 384kb/s files be larger?

Probably, but you main difference might not be the audio.
