So on the great subject of streaming TV.
When I select the streaming settings via EWA I am obviously trying to get a better viewing experience by having the bitrate and window size large. But when setting the bandwidth at LAN and the window size at 720 using VLC I can say the output is not worth watching. When the camera view of the show/program changes there is a considerable amount of distortion lasting for a couple of seconds. As often as this happens in a show or movie the better half of the program is unwatchable.
Setting the window size smaller does work in terms of the distortion going away but that would be a significant trade off when enlarging the window to a decent viewable size. The external monitor I am using is a 15" with a max of 1024 so I'm not talking about blowing this up to huge proportions.
As I mentioned the bitrate and window size are at the highest setting along with the priority level. When I check the server machine I see the CPU usage is hovering around the 10% and network usage is around 1.8% on both client and server machines on 100mb conn.
I have not changed much on the gbpvr server side from default, so if there are certain settings which people have found to work well for both viewing via the MVP and through EWA streaming please tell!
Thanks!
Jeremy

You accessing wired or wirelessly?
What are the settings you are using for your Transcode? Preset or Manual and their values?

What is your source file recorded in? What bitrate? Low quality source will result in a low quality stream no matter how high you set your bitrate.

Sorry for leaving out that info. I was accessing the stream wirelessly but switched to wired after only the lowest settings would work.
I have the the rendering set for EVR or am I thinking of the wrong thing?
The recording settings were set at high and the streaming bitrate was set to LAN

Click on the transcode button in the streamer window.

Try using the below settings and see what your results are. I do know the lastest release of VLC is not working for H264 streaming....I am trying to work through that now....but the 8.6 versions of VLC work fine.

Any luck?

Also...make sure you are running VLC 8.6x on the server....9.2 will most likely fail.

Seems to working ok for the moment but I have been busy and haven't had the chance to stream much.
I'll check on the VLC version on the server, but to make sure I'm thinking of the right piece of software, are you referring to the base client package most people normally d/l? I probably installed the latest one off their website so that might be a big part of the problem. What exactly does the 8.6x versions have which 9.2 doesn't or screwed up?

Yep...the one you would normally download....EWA calls that program and sets it into streamining mode rather than playing mode.

You can get an e.6 version here.
