Hello to you all on this forum, been a regular visitor since Nov. 2007 when I built my first HTPC and chose GBPVR as the tv portal, have learnt a great deal since then and always found an answer if I was stuck here- so much so that this is my first support thread.

My problem is that on upgrade the installer failed with 'internal error 2753.config.exe' tried all the usual proceedures to repair things but to no avail- decided on a complete re-install, but no luck, still the same.

Unfortunately I could not back up the logs as even the uninstaller stalled (if you know what I mean) and I vaped the Devnez folder before engaging brain:confused: other further efforts to rescue things have also failed.

I'm afraid all is lost now, I have decided on a complete re-vamp of the whole setup.

To clarify, I am sure GBPVR is NOT my main problem, the hardware selection (Asus Pundit- AMD X2- Win XP Combo) has been a nightmare from start to finish, I could elaborate but to be fair bordem would reduce me to tears (again) and most likely every one else reading this.

My main reason for this post is that I felt it important to mention this upgrade failure just in case Sub needs the info.

Many thanks to you all for all your helpful posts- and. be assured I will be back to GBPVR soon BUT with a PROPER mainboard and case!

might wanna check for any extra config.xml's haniging about on the system, as this can be caused by that, among other things...
[specially in %windows%\system32]
there's supposed to be config.xml in some apps and in windows, but not in system32 or windows dir or root of drive...putting one those places will get used instead of local sometimes..
just a thought...Smile

Thanx for that pBS, as I said in my original post I have had my fill of this particular machine- so last evening I ordered a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G with a apropriate case to re-build the system.

I picked your post up about lunchtime today and it set me thinking, I remember a similar problem on a pc one of my sons was using for gaming, one particular game went flakey requiring a re-install with almost identical results, in that instance it turned out to be a problem with the installer leaving behind incorrect references in the registry.

A quick search revealed a number of values for GBPVR still active in both in hklm and hkcu including entries for the recording service- sure enough “services.msc” showed up gbpvr.recording service still active and cross referenced in the registry.

After a comprehensive 'clear out' I confidently fired up 'gbpvr.msi'- result, exactly the same!

Then a thought struck me about your post, I'd downloaded 1.3.11 to a new folder on a logical partition called 'update' I then backed up the gbpvr.db3 and config.xml files to the same folder.

Right, I thought, I'll move the backups to a pen drive (completely off the system) and move the installer to the desktop and run it from there- lo and behold 'success!' the install ran through without a hitch!.

Did I need to fiddle with the registry? (never a good idea) well, without trying to duplicate the error I'll never know, and I have no intentions of trying for in a few days time when the new box and mainboard arrive this machine will be just a bad memory.

Thanks again pBS, hope this helps anyone else how gets stuck with this type of error.
