I'd like to capture MPEG2 TS files using Graph Recorder from the firewire port on the STB. The capture graph uses the GBPVR file writer with a .ts extension. Only 1 of 4 recordings will play in 1.3.11. The files that won't play in GBPVR play fine in Graphedit, using the Nvidia Transport Demux which Graphedit selects when using the Render File menu item. They also play fine in WMP.

GBPVR can't seem to render the output pins of the MPEG-2 Demux, the graph shows the SOURCE filter connected to the demux, but the demux has no output pins and there are no decoders in the graph.

Logs attached.

Thanks, Sub.

You'd have to supply a short sample .ts that I could check.

Sub: Pm'd you with link to 50 MB (30 sec) file to examine. Interestingly, this file (and another of the same approximate size) plays fine in GBPVR. They were recorded with Graphedit using the graph that is used in Graphrecorder. However, a 10 minute/800MB file recorded with GBPVR manual record, will not play. So, is there a file length consideration? Also, is the MPEG-2 demux in Vista "better" or different than the one in XP? You develop on Vista, right?

BTW, is there a way to make shorter manual recordings? I couldn't find anything in config.xml. Might be handy for test purposes.

I wont bother downloading that sample if it doesnt show the problem.

Its unlikely to be related to size though, so you cutting a chunk of the file with this utility: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=3...stcount=25

It might be worth trying this patch to see if helps first though: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=3...stcount=17

Tried the new TS reader and no joy. Same failed graph.

New upload of a 50 MB chunk that will not play is on the way. (Thanks for the pointer to the cutting app.)

Also, the TS files that do play result in a lastgraph that kills Graphedit if I try to open it. Any insight there?

The TS files that do play are from a different channel. Both are OTA stations that are provided in HD by my cableco. I have had one cable network that did play one recording in TS.

As always, thanks.

Ok, I'll try the new chunk when you've uploaded it and let me know the URL.

That new file is badly broken. Transport stream files are made up from small 188 byte packets, with each packet starting with the magic '0x47' sync byte. Your file did not start with the required 0x47. I searched the first 100k and couldnt find four consectutive 0x47 sync bytes 188 characters apart. Are you sure it wasnt an encrypted channel?

Its possible this transport stream will play in a player with much more tolerance for crappy data, but sorry, its not going to play in the GB-PVR TS Reader. You'd need to find a way to make your firewire TS files more compliant.

Thanks for looking at this, I realize that firewire capture is not a prime objective of GBPVR. Glad to see you're maintaining high standards regarding TS compliance! Smile

I can record by demuxing and remuxing to PS, so all is not lost.

Can I look at my other files with a hex editor to see how they are formed, or perhaps TS Reader Lite?

TS Reader is particularly good at just ignoring stuff until it finds valid packets, but doesnt really give you any feedback about the garbage it throws away. You'd be able to use a hex editor though. You'll find the very first byte is 0x47, and this same byte is repeated every 188 bytes.
