i have 7 days ahead guide data
say i record a program today when i finish watching i think yeah i want to do a season recording but im going away.So i cannot schedule the recording because i dont have the data for next week
what would be cool is if you can go to search guide pull up the name and set it to do a season record if that program comes up again in the guide

can't you set a season recording on the show thats just been on??

It probably wont go red, but check if it creates a recuring recording.

no
it just gives you the option of find all once the recording has finished
so none were found
so no you cannot set up a season record

Here is a backdoor which I have made frequent use of when I wanted to set up future recordings of widen a daily mini marathon (like NCIS on USA which airs 3 and not 2 shows back to back). It does involve editing some XML so if you are not comfortable with that, do not proceed.

Obtain your recording-dump.xml and open it in a text editor like notepad or ultra edit and then save it to a temporary location.

As an example, I still had a season recording from when moolight was on CBS from last spring. I learned last fall that SciFi was going to be picking it up and airing begining in January, but at the time, I did not know what day or time.

I changed the channel indicator from <channel>5 WTVF</channel> to <channel>57 SCIFI</channel> and updated the timeslot to use a typical primetime slot.

Because I went with 6PM-11PM, if the show moves from 8PM to 9PM or 7PM, it will still be picked up because the recording falls within that timeslot. This does require that you can correctly predict the name of the show when it does air.

Once you have adjusted your entries, go into the GBPVR config and go to the plugins tab click import recordings and browse to the temporary location where your new XML file resides and import.

Once imported, go to EWA and find the season recording and update the quality settings and any pre/post padding changes. Once your TV source catches up to the desired program, and if you guessed the show name correctly, it will be added to your recording queue.

your new file should look like the below:
---------------------
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<recordings>

<recording>
<filename>Moonlight</filename>
<channel>57 SCIFI</channel>
<status>SEASON</status>
<group>5</group>
<prePadding>2</prePadding>
<postPadding>2</postPadding>
<startTime>2009-01-03 18:00:00</startTime>
<endTime>2009-01-03 23:00:00</endTime>
</recording>

</recordings>

EWA's Autosearch/Record feature combined with its command line search utility will solve your problem. I never use season recordings now.
