I'm been having crashing issues for several versions of GBPVR and HDHomerun when attempting to run channel scans for channel mapping inside GBPVR. The work-around the whole time has been using the Wiz BDA Channel Tools to restore channel mappings I have from a still valid scan I was able to run the scan without issue many versions ago using the HDHR "Other: ATSC/Remap" setting. I've been fortunate so far with Brighthouse Cable in Tampa not remapping any channels since the issue started occurring but I know my luck will run out.

The latest attempt has been using hdhomerun_windows_20090123beta1 and GBPVR10311. I've attempted removing the HDHR driver fully and GBPVR and starting with a fully clean installation of each time including manual registry and file cleanups. The channel scan is crashing on random channels on each scan and with more than 10 attempts i have never been able to get past 25% on the scan. The existing threads regarding issues with crashing durring scans have not had a working work-around. The signal strength is as good as it gets on both tuners. Any suggestions?

Here's a possible workaround.

When you restart the config app, does it list the channels it found before ethe crash? If so, make not of the frequencies that you have stations on. Take your qam.ini file and remove any frequencies up until when it crashed that didn't contain a station and leave the rest. Then start tuning again. It should immediately find the frequencies that have a station and continue scanning from when it crashed. Keep doing this until you have a complete scan.

I wasn't able to get the mapping for all of my channels using the suggested method. I tried both tuner just to rule out anything odd with the same results. Again, the signal is good and all recording using the existing configuration are 100% flawless.

First, the saved working channel map I have for all of my programs:

Code:
004 | T:4,80,3~P:2624~V:49~A:52~PMT:48~PCR:49~N:>80.3  WTOG (000(AC3))
007 | T:2,80,1~P:2608~V:64~A:65~PMT:103~PCR:64~N:>80.1  WFLADT (000(AC3))
010 | T:3,80,2~P:2610~V:33~A:34~PMT:32~PCR:33~N:>80.2  WTSP (000(AC3))
011 | T:6,80,5~P:2628~V:17~A:20~PMT:16~PCR:17~N:>80.5  WFTSDT (000(AC3))
014 | T:5,80,4~P:2613~V:34~A:37~PMT:33~PCR:34~N:>80.4  WTVT (000)

This is what I was able to find using the suggested brute force method. I didn't physically verify them by tuning but the PID look sane compared to my saved scan.

Code:
T:685250,0,0~P:2610~V:33~A:34~PMT:32~PCR:33~N:>610.1  WTSP-HD* (000(AC3))
T:685250,0,0~P:2624~V:49~A:52~PMT:48~PCR:8191~N:>624.1  WTOG-DT* (000(AC3))
T:625250,0,0~P:2608~V:64~A:65~PMT:103~PCR:64~N:>625250.2608  Unknown3* (000(AC3))

I opened up the resulting GPVR channel scan cache files after my scans and attempted to grep out the known PIDs which is how I identified WFTSDT. I wasn't able to get a hit for WFTS or WTVT but I had to skip a few channel after repeated crashes.

Any other ideas to create the the appropriate mappings? Is there another tool I might be able to use to create the tuning strings for GPVR? I was motivated by the mult-record feature as I have programs that share the same channel but I know I'm going to find myself SOL when Brighthouse remaps the channels sooner or later.

That is created by the HDHR scan but it lacks the PID numbers needed to map the channel in GBPVR. You can use it to create a custom qam.ini to only scan the channels you need though:

<Frequency> / 1000 - 1750 = <GBPVR Frequency>

So to scan the channels on 711000000 (WTTADT2, CSPAN), you would need to have the following in your qam.ini:

[entry number]=709250,0,0

I created a custom qam.ini which didn't resolve the issue but I think now narrows down the channel causing the issue.
Code:
<Frequency> / 1000 - 1750 = <GBPVR Frequency>
WTOG   = 687000000 (687000000 / 1000) - 1750 = 685250,0,0
WTOGDT = 717000000 (717000000 / 1000) - 1750 = 715250,0,0
WFLA   = 627000000 (627000000 / 1000) - 1750 = 625250,0,0
WTSP   = 687000000 (687000000 / 1000) - 1750 = 685250,0,0
WFTS   = 705000000 (705000000 / 1000) - 1750 = 703250,0,0
WTVT   = 705000000 (705000000 / 1000) - 1750 = 703250,0,0

here is the resulting custom qam.ini I created:

Code:
[CABTYPE]
1=All Countries
2=All Frequencies

[DVB]
0=4
1=625250,0,0
2=685250,0,0
3=703250,0,0
4=715250,0,0

This is crashing each time on scanning 3 of 4 703250,0,0

I tuned to "qam256:705000000" using the HDHR Config GUI and saved an unfiltered ~30 second capture using:

Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\Stepniowski>"C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hd
homerun_config" FFFFFFFF set /tuner0/filter 0x0000-0x1FFF

C:\Documents and Settings\Stepniowski>"C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hd
homerun_config" FFFFFFFF save /tuner1 705000000.ts

The resulting unfiltered capture is made available: This capture does NOT playback correctly using VLC:
http://www.majjix.com/~lstepnio/705000000.ts

I ran the unfiltered capture against TSReader Lite and results are posted here:
http://www.majjix.com/~lstepnio/705000000.html

The PMT PID 33 (0x0021) - Program 2613 if I'm not mistaken looks like it's causing the problem and correct me if I'm wrong but that PID should be "014 | T:5,80,4~P:2613~V:34~A:37~PMT:33~PCR:34~N:>80.4 WTVT (000)" which when using that tuning string is correctly tuning in my local FOX station in GBPVR.

I'm getting worn out for the night but the last thought for tonight is to exclude 705000000 from the scan and using the output of TSReader to custom create the tuning string which just might be a work-around.

Any additional thoughts or suggestions?

That's actually a great way to do it but I was afraid to suggest it. The only suggestion that I would make is to adjust the tuning string to use "T:703250,0,0" (along with the rest of it) instead unless you are still using the ATSC/Remap method. You can leave the "N:" section showing "80.4" as this is only used by GBPVR to try to help you identify the channel.

I came up with this.

Code:
T:703250,0,0~P:2613~V:34~A:37~PMT:33~PCR:34~N:WTVT-FOX13

Here is the working remap string.
Code:
014 | T:5,80,4~P:2613~V:34~A:37~PMT:33~PCR:34~N:>80.4  WTVT (000)

The PCR value is simply the video pid, correct?

This should be fine for a work-around once I have chance to play with it but any ideas in regards to the root cause? I think it's unexpected that VLC is unable to play the 30 second unfiltered capture and that TSReader reports no data in the PID Usage for PID 2613 which according to my working remap tuning sting is FOX? Is this a simple matter of me missing something that 2613 on that channel should be FOX?
