I can't find a lot of comparisons on GBPVR vs MCE surprisingly so I thougth I would list a few of the things that bug me about MCE and tell me if it would be better under GBPVR.

1. I run MCE full screen on my TV (2nd monitor) and it locks the mouse so can't use the computer for anything else if someone is using MCE.

2. No easy way to close MCE with the remote. Have to Alt-F4. This is only a pain because I have my computer digitally outputted to my stereo and I don't turn it off so don't want to hear my computer in the middle of the night.

I guess after thinking these are the only two things that but me at the moment.

I would love any links to anybody who has done a good comparison of the two programs.

I don't really use MCE so I would not be able to give you a comprehensive comparison. However, since GBPVR is free, it wouldn't be dificult for you to do your own comparison. Wink After all, PVR software is really about personal choice.

Some things that I like about GBPVR over MCE:

  1. The ability to have separate program guides for each tuner.
  2. The new multi-record feature. (I can record 3 digital programs simultaneously from one tuner. For the US, this is really only a benefit for QAM users, not OTA.)
  3. Sub's responsiveness to bug fixes and feature requests. (Ever had MS fix an MCE bug within minutes of it being reported?)
  4. Support for the HD-PVR.
  5. Support for H.264/AAC
  6. No DRM.

The only real benefit of MCE that I see over GBPVR is OCUR support.

A little one sided but this is the GBPVR forum after all. Wink

I'm a heavy user of both GBPVR and MC. There are parts of both I like but I've been a GBPVR user much longer. It just works for me. I have 2 systems so just in case of missing something, many times I record with both so I am sure to have a good recording.
Luckily for me, I test for MS and have 2 of the DCT cable card tuners. They are sweet but not for everyone and will only work with MC.
And, I agree, you just won't get the support from any other PVR that you get from sub and no one can argue that!

Sorry -- just noticed.

I used to be an MCE user -- in fact, I run GBPVR on an MCE box [see sig] but with the MCE services disabled. I had a lot of niggling issues with MCE around DVB. Losing channels, not finding channels. Losing recordings when the broadcaster only moved the timeslot and so on. So, I tried GBPVR -- and Ive stuck with it. For me, its rock-solid reliable...and that means the WAF is very high Smile

BTW I used to use MediaPortal before MCE, even though MediaPortal is great on the eyes, stability was the issue for me at the time.
