I was wondering if any one had some advice on tracking down why my computer hard-locks (screen stuck, no mouse, etc), occassionally while i'm recording.

There is no event log that shows it dieing. Its normal right up to the time it dies, then resumes right there on restart.

I ran the microsoft ram test cd on the computer a number of months ago, and it was ok. I am going to put it back on again, and let it run for a day or two.

The computer is fine most of the time. It doesn't lock when i'm watching videos, etc. This morning, a recording started at 8:00, and it was hardlocked at 8:14. Yesterday, it recorded 3 hours of TV with out a hitch..

Thanks

Normal stuff to check is psu and memory, but you need to post what your system is i.e cpu, mobo, tv card etc.
As you said you have checked the memory what temperature is the cpu running at? also check the disk, by using scandisk etc.
PVR1: GBPVR 1.3.11|Pentium E5200|2GB|Hauppauge nova-t stick|nova-t usb2| tevion dvb-t100|250GB OS + 250GB HDD

Ram: 1.5 GB DDR 333
USBUIRT Transmitter

Windows XP, SP3

Yes, Monitor your hardware as is not feeling like a software issue.

What OS?

Also try recording with Huappauge built in stuff.
Let us know...

Windows XP, SP3..

So far, the temp never exceeds 56 C at 100% load (comskip)..

Going to look for a voltage monitor that logs..

The next break I have in recordings, im going to run the ram check again..

Temp1 Temp2 Temp3 HD0 HD1 Core VCOREA VCOREB +3.3V
35.0 51.0 41.0 36.0 42.0 54.0 1.4 1.5 2.9

This is the worst speed fan logged.. The machine hard locked again.

I may replace the PS due to that 2.9 / 3.3, and see what happens..

It's has to be either a device driver or the psu if you have checked the other stuff.

I replaced the PS. Now the 3.3 v line, is 3.3, not 2.9

So far, no lockups.... (cross fingers)Smile
