Guys
After years of flawless service, trauma is coming to my GB-PVR setup. Comcast will stop broadcasting the analog signal in our area this spring. AS I understand it, they will be using clear QAM on all the channels that are currently analog. This will force me to record digital broadcasts and transcode them in order to play on our MVPs. Because we have multiple MVPs and watchers, a real-time transcode will not serve as the only solution, I will need to store transcoded videos. The SDTV format is MP2 video/AC3 audio, and I think I can figure out an ffmpeg command string to convert the audio. However, the change is also motivating me to allow for HDTV and playing to a yet-to-be purchased NMT. So, what I think I need to do is to write a script that will figure out whether a given recording is SDTV (and needs to be converted) or not. Any suggestions on how to do this accurately? Other questions, will I be able to slipstream (FF and REW while recording) with both devices? Does comskip work with .ts files, SDTV and HDTV?
Thanks for any help, and special thanks to Martin for MVPMC and his support for both MVP and NMT.
