If I get the wired version of the mvp, will it be as responsive as a standalone dvr? I.e. How long does it take to "boot up" and contact the host computer; how long between pressing a button to scroll thorugh shows do u get a response; and are u able to fast forward, jump 30s for commercial, etc. like u would for a dvr w/o hesitation?

I've never seen either of these, so cant answer that, but I'd guess the answer is 'no' - mainly due to its thin client design, requiring screens etc to be processed on the server.

There are some variances here depending on whether you're booting up from first power up, which requires loading the firmware, or just bring it out of stand by (about 10 seconds). I've never used the wireless feature available on some models, so I'm not sure if that is slower or not.

This largely depends on the sped of your server - the faster the better. With a fast modern machine as your server, your response times can be as a little bit less than half a second between key press and seeing the action occur.

Yes, you can do this. Its probably about half a second to a second to respond.

Overall, responce time for watching video is slightly slower than My Tivo.
But the guide in my TIVO or doing anything that requires to move through a menu is torture if I've got too many recordings on it.

At least with the MVP the speed is consistant reguardless of how full your hard drive is.

IF you're booting from powerup, how long does it take? Do you leave ur mvp on standby mode all the time? Does it automatically go into standby mode?

If you bring mvp out of standby or power it up, and host computer is in standby mode, would host computer "wake up"?

From memory its about another 20 seconds or so.

Yes, thats how I'd recommend doing it, but some people are little more energy conscious than me - I try not to think about all device I have connected sucking power all day...

No, it goes in to standby when you press the green power button on the MVP remote.

No, but there might be things you can do to work around this.

so if u had computer on in standby mode at night, does it mean u have to poweron the mvp in the morning, or could the mvp still be on thorughout the night for faster connection? or if the mvp was on standby first, and then u turned computer on standby, would the resume for mvp also be 10s? thanks.

As long as the power is not removed from the MVP, then it wont have to reload the firmware - you can reboot/standby/hibernate your PC as much as you want .

You can leave the mvp on, I doubt it will connect much faster.Rolleyes When you turn it on while the computer is waking up, it'll take the normal 10-20 secs extra.

Would be the same I guess, It has to establish a connection either way.
