This problem has been on and off.
But I think I have caught it now.
If I open the Grabber UI and the setting is to save to separate metadata.xml
this won't happen.
All is loaded and it is possible to see the data in the edit box. But no xml-file is saved.
Same if I run the commandline. The "/sf" do not work, no xml-files is added.
"/sb" work fine though.

More trouble. The log-files is created empty. Nothing in them.
And during the test I cancelled the grabbing causing two files to be corrupt.
This leading to unhandled exception ("unexpected file ending") when I entered this folder in the Videos Library (worked in the original Video Library).

I could fix this by grabbing the data once more and letting the grabber update the avi-info (without cancelling this time).

I still have corrupted copies if it is helpful...

Maybe the error in writing in files is due to wrong dll-versions, I'm not sure. But if it is, I added the dll-log.

Yes, I have to save embedded as well but I should prefer to just add a xml-file.

A reinstallation of the grabber fixed this problem.
So this is not a problem anymore
