Since Friday, every time my machine has attempted an EPG update, it has rebooted as soon as it the EPG update has started.
The same happens if I set off an EPG update manually. I've tried deleting all channels, emptying the EPG and rescanning but the same happens when I attempt to populate the EPG.
It's a Freecom DVB USB stick Type 3 if that makes any difference - been using it with GBPVR for a couple of years.
Any bright ideas gratefully received!

A reboot is typically caused by buggy drivers, or flakey hardware. If it was an app problem, you'd see the app crash, not the machine reboot.

I was beginning to think along the lines of the hardware myself...especially as I upgraded the RAM on Friday!
I've now put the original SDRAM back in the machine and EPG updates fine again Smile - a 1G DDR SDRAM seems to have been responsible for the problems...even though on paper it should have been fine and BIOS settings matched
I should have really connected the h/ware 'upgrade' and the start of the problem before ....

Great - glad you were able to identify the cause.

Update - I tried a different 1G DIMM (believe it or not, I'm running on a 'Tranquil PC' mini-ITX based machine with Pentium-M 1.3 (o/c to 1.4G) which until now has had 512MB RAM.) This produced the same reboots on EPG updates. Interestingly I see there have been a few other similar looking issues with Freecom DVB-T USB sticks....e.g. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ht=freecom

As the machine was fine other than when using the Freecom stick, I was a bit suspicious so tried changing the BDA drivers to the ones on Freecom's site http://www.freecom.com/ecDrivers.asp?for...roup=11361 - this was a bit of a battle as Windows wasn't keen on the driver being 'updated' but I eventually cornered the beast and got it to install them.

After this work (2 hours of messing about for what should have been a 5 minute DIMM swap!) I can now update the EPG without the PC rebooting, although it does seem slightly slower tuning to channels (or maybe in producing readable data after a tuning request). Hooray Smile
