I've been having some problems with GBPVR on my computer and hopefully someone here can help me figure them out. I'm running windows 7 and I have an ATI TV Wonder 650 attached via USB. I've noticed recently that after I restart my computer and click on the recording status option in the GBPVR tray icon I see 8 different capture sources listed, all described as "Tuner 1:" without a status listed. When this happens, I can go to live TV and all I see is a black screen for a moment then it reverts back to the GBPVR menu.

I've found a way to fix this problem by going into the config screen, clicking on the capture sources tab and then clicking ok. I didn't really do anything in the config menu but I still get a restarting message and then my capture source is only listed as a single, correctly named, source. After I do this, my live TV option works as expected.

On a side note, I first tried using the stop/restart commands in the start menu to get my capture sources fixed but they did not appear to do the same thing as going into the config screen.

In addition, the capture sources periodically revert back to the 8 incorrectly listed capture sources and everything stops working again. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Obviously with this type of behavior happening setting a recording schedule becomes difficult because I never know when it will all crap out.

The tray app shows 8 capture sources thing when it cant talk to Recording Service to find out how many capture sources there are. ie, it has 8 slots, and usually populates the ones in use, and hides the rest. In this case its been unable to find out how many are in use. (It wont cause scheduling problems)

Either the recording service isnt running, or you have some firewall software getting in the way.

I verified the exceptions in Windows Firewall for PVRX2. The only AV-type thing that I have on the computer is MS Security Essentials and I can uninstall that if you think it might cause a problem. Other than that, I don't have anything else running on the computer except for the stock Win 7 services. Is there anything else I could look into for fixing this?

Check if GBPVRRecordingService.exe is in the task list. If it is, then its definitely a firewall type problem. If its not, then we need to work out why its not running.

Win 7 seems to have changed up the task list a bit. On one tab I see the processes and on this list I only see the GBPVRTray.exe process. In the Services tab, I see the GBPVR Recording Service service and I see it marked as running.

Since I'm not seeing the recording service on the process list, does this mean I have a firewall issue?

In Win7 you need to have pressed the 'Show processes from all users' button at the bottom of the task list.

Sorry for missing that. I see the recording service now.

{EDIT} I think I have have found two things that, hopeful, will fix this problem. One, the recording service was set to manually start and this is why each time I rebooted I would see the 8 unknown capture sources. Also, poking around on the forums a bit I found something about allowing the recording service to interact with the desktop. I found the screen in the service properties to allow this and hopefully between the two changes, it'll help with my apparent firewall issue.
