You'd only be able to get DVB-S with this card, not DVB-S2. For DVB-S2 in GBPVR you pretty much need to be using a Hauppauge card.

If you want to do DVB-S2 in GB-PVR, then you need a Hauppauge card. In general DVB-S2 never really took off though, with many countries opting to use DVB-S or DVB-T to deliver their hdtv, so you comment is not correct.

HD does not mean S2. Certainly the three free-to-air HD channels in the UK only need a DVB-S card. There are a number of subscription only ones that transmit on dvb-s2 though. You would have to look at lyngsat or something to find out what your requested stations use to be sure.

No, but you need an S2 card to receive any channels broadcast using DVB-S2.

Yes, it'll work fine for HD channels broadcast on DVB-S (like Freesat in the UK etc).

As Martin said above, HD and S2 are entirely different things. HD-channels can be broadcast on any of the DVB technologies - DVB-T/DVB-C/DVB-S/DVB-S2. You really need to find what specific channels you're interested in, then look up on the net to see whether they were broadcast with DVB-S or DVB-S2. For example, Freesat in the UK with BBC HD, ITV HD etc, broadcast MPEG-4/HD channels on DVB-S.

Ah - looking at http://www.lyngsat.com/hd/thor5.html and http://www.lyngsat.com/hd/sirius4.html it would appear the HD stations are using dvb-s2 (encryption column)

So you do need an S2 card, but it sounds like its isn't supported with gbpvr Sad
