This is what's happening to me. I have my htpc set to output to hdmi on samsung tv. The problem I have that most of the time I use my cable box then I want to switch to watch something on gbpvr. The tv detect there is something connected to my hdmi port, but does not show any picture.
To solve this I have to do a manual restart and after post it activases video display.
Is there a setting to force XP on my hvr1600 to always sends the video output?

Remember, the HVR1600 has nothing to do with video output. This is the job of your nvidia videocard. My machine runs 24x7 though, and has an ATI videocard, so I'm not really the best person to advise a work around.

I've definitely seen discussion about video cards automatically switching to the DVI/VGA input if a signal is not detected on the HDMI input. It might be related to tha

I think this might be a known issue with samsung TV's. I have a samsung LCD connected via lcd and occasionally get e No Video signal message. Normally after the machine has returned from sleep, rather than on switching to it.

I have found another way to get it back rather than to restart the server.
Run mstsc /v machinename /console and it kicks you back to the welcome screen (and on mine, kicks the video card back into gear) and then I log in on the server (with an attached wireless keyboard).
