I tried a few weeks ago, but found that too many drivers was missing, and lots of them did not work properly. Remember that W7 is still in its alfa stage, so don't have too high expectations, but I'll try again when it is finished.

X64 and GBPVR are working very fine for me. It's the first time I've tried a 64bit OS and while I don't use the computer for much other than recording, I'm liking it. Just a tad bit faster in a few things but no noticeable difference with GBPVR.

I wouldn't call an RC build an 'alpha' build. I've tested for MS for a few years and what they've given to us testers has never been labeled an alpha. However, while this RC build is sturdy, they are still working out a few kinks but for the majority of users, it's ready to go.

Does it still insist on using its own codecs (as I've read it did with H264)? Or can you get it to use your preferred filters?...

I have tried W7 64 with GBPVR and have had less than satisfying results. I realize it’s a combination of driver problems but I don’t really care to experiment with it anymore. I wasted a bunch of time already getting it to work just mediocre.

I had problems getting the channel scan to run without crashing but finally resolved that issue (been a while so I don’t remember exactly what I did). As it stands now, in W7 I can watch live tv but scheduled recordings always fail. I haven’t tried time-shifting but I imagine it wouldn’t work either. Playback of files (DVR-MS, AVI, etc...) would entirely crash the PC. A message would flash during the BSOD but never stayed long enough for me to read what the problem was. The ATI drivers for my video had varying affects as well, but I got tired of fooling around with them. Also, my limited experience in Vista 32 had the same results (crashing the PC playing video files.)

I use a Pinnacle HD PCTV card and the application it uses never functions properly in W7 either (even with updated W7 drivers). It opens and hangs. If for some reason it does work, it stays stuck on one channel and closing the app doesn’t respond. I need to close it through task manager.

So although I have grown fonder of W7 I rarely use it since I can’t get GBPVR to work correctly in it. The exact same computer runs GBPVR flawlessly with XP Pro. My PC is as follows:

Biostar TA790GX A2+ mobo
AMD 9950 BE Quad processor (OC’dto 2.9ghz)
4 gig OCZ PC6400 RAM
Dual boot XP Pro & W7

There's still talk on whether W7 will block third party codecs but I've not seen that yet.
This is interesting but I've not tried it.

I agree with pcostanza that W7 was never released to public as "alpha"... initial public release was "beta", the second one is ReleaseCandidate1 and there are even later leaked builds out there. I'm currently running 7229 build x64 (RC1 was 7100).

I tried running GB-PVR with beta Win7 (initial public version), but it didn't work at all - blank screen no voice, scanning failed. i think it was most likely related to my Hauppauge drivers though ... they run great in XP 32-bit/64-bit and in Vista x64 ...

just received reply from Hauppauge that latest beta on their page for Vista x64 should work in W7 however they do not yet have drivers designed for W7 specifically ...
there are even more recent Hauppauge drivers (than official beta) released by their developer on support forum:
http://www.shspvr.com/smf/index.php?topic=11983.0

I think it's time to get latest drivers again and give it another shot.

i like w7 very much, it compiles robustness of XP with nice eye candies like in Vista (of course i hate UAC but you can always disable that).

In general GB-PVR requries Framework 2.0 and some runtime libraries (VB?), now if drievrs are OK, how about othe components of this puzzle ? is framework 2.0 already included in W7 (didn't check yet) and how about that runtime installation ? Correct me if wrong, i'm recalling installation of such stuff in past, but i may have twisted some facts.

For my HVR1600 in X64 W7, I just used the drivers Windows installed and it worked just fine. Same with my ATI650. Right out the box. I know some other testers had problems with AverMedia cards but last I heard, AM has updated their driver base.
There's lots of questions about running x86 or x64 and most of the programs out there are made for x86. But, most of the pre-built systems on shelves that I've seen come with x64 Vista now. I think W7 may be the last OS to even offer 32bit (just my opinion, I know nothing for sure).
Hauppuage hasn't updated the 1600 drivers in a bit and since it's an older card, they may not. They've kept the 2250 updated regularly so depending on what card you buy, buyer beware if running W7.

I also believe W7 is the last 32-bit offer from MS. all programs basically run flawlessly on x64 even when you install 32-bit version (OS supports both). in rare circumstances there is specific x64 version needed and/or recommended (performance wise), that depends on the vendor, but most of them have been up to date with it since Vista x64 was so often pre-installed on home desktops and high-end laptops.

I will try running GB-PVR with W7 native drivers (devices are installed), perhaps my bad was to install Hauppauge HVR-1800 driver package in first place...

I switched from VISTA x64 to Windows 7 x64 RC a couple of weeks ago. GB-PVR runs better for me - I haven't had any zero length recordings yet (fingers crossed - I used to get them 20% of the time under VISTA). Everything else (GB-PVR wise) is the same for me as in VISTA.

Also tried the WMC functionality now that they support New Zealand codecs - and it also works on my Hauppauge Nova-T 500 dual DVB-T card.

Cheers, Simon.
