Hi,

I have experiencing this problem once in a while but it's really time consuming trying to catch it. Appreciate if anyone experienced the same problem could help me on this. I schedule a recording at certain timing and before that the PC was in standby. I have noticed it wakes up and start recording (I could tell from the hardisk led is blinking) and sometime after an hour or so during recording I tried to control the pc via a usb keyboard but the PC will not respond and the screen is blank. At this moment I notice the hardisk led has stopped blinking and has confirmed the recording has stop. The recorded mpeg file is somehow corrupted and unable to play. I can't tell is this symptom under recording crash or PC hang during standby. Please help.

I manage to simulate the problem and here is the log file. Could someone tell me exactly what went wrong? I started to do a recording and leave the pc in standby. I have observed it wakes up and start the recording and after 10 mins I have no problem to activate the blank screen with the usb keyboard. However after about 25 mins of recording the pc just hang at the gbpvr main menu screen and I have to do a reset button to restart the pc. Thanks.

Is the PC itself hung or just GB-PVR? If its the PC, then its likely some driver problem or hardware instability (and the GB-PVR logs wouldnt show anything useful for finding the cause).

I think it's the PC that got hang. I couldnt activate or navigate with keyboard or mouse. However this only happen when the gbpvr goes into recording. Else the pc will never hang if there is no recording going on. Any setting in the gbpvr recording or patch to resolve this? Thanks.

This isnt the sort of thing a GB-PVR setting or patch would help.

Its most likely some bug in your capture device's driver, related to not coming out of standby correctly or something.

Another thing I could tell when the recording has stopped by looking at the main menu time on the GBPVR. The clock will just stop ticking and I know it has hang and at this point of time the recording will stop. I like to know under what circumstances will the recording stop even it has started successfully for an hour or more. Has it got anything to do with the video rederer I choose in the setup? By the way I am using hauppage hvr 1300 video card.

Another thing I just discovered is when I change the renderer to VRM9 custom instead of overlay manager. The PC doesnt wake up to do the schedule recording. Could you explain what are these renderer about and how does it affect the system. Thanks.

I dont know. The renderer shouldnt have any effect on whether the machine wakes up. I've not seen any other reports of that. I just tried it here, and it still seems to wake fine for me with Overlay renderer.

hi sub,

you are right. The system is able to go to sleep with different renderer I choose. I realize the renderer (vmr9 fullscreen) could not wake up my system for recording. The other renderer problem is PC hang during recording. This happens some of the time and the worst part is during half way of recording. I have also tried to reinstall my hauppauge drivers but left out the winTV application don't seems to help. Seems like the renderer plays a part in standby and wake up of the system.

I'm not sure if the vmr9 customer = not wake up to record is related to your hang when recording as the recording service doesn;t care what renderer pvrx2 is using.

Also as it seems to record ok for > 10mins after wake from standby, I don;t think your hang problem is related to standby/wakeup.

so to focus on the hang when recording, try disabling standby and select overlay renderer for a short time while you work on finding the cause of the hang problem, then schedule a lot of back-to-back recordings. As Sub said., this is going to be driver or hardware related.

some things to check:
make sure you have the latest drivers for the motherboard chipset and tv tuner.
try moving the tuner to another slot
try removing any unnecessary hardware such as soundcards, dvd drives, extra hard disks to reduce IRQ conflicts and load on the PSU.

try running the pc with the case/lid off for a while to see if it might be heat related.
check the pc is not full of dust, especially the cpu heatsink (It's worth mentioning and has fixed problems for people in the past but I have no idea if your is an old pc that you have never opened the case or a hand built labour of love that you keep perfectly clean)
