When you have a DVD in the drive WMP 11 shows the metadata for it (title, cover image, chapter list etc). Does anyone know if this can be hooked into somehow from an external program? Or any other resource or method of looking up DVD metadata based on the DVD disc.

Google (for me) has come back with little of use so far.

MSDN might have info
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/...S.85).aspx
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/...S.85).aspx

I searched for info about this a year ago, when we where working on the MediaScanner.
Looks like the DVD has an ID, and with that info a lookup is made in the AMG (allmusicguide.com) site is done. But I never found any code for the lookup.
Have a look at the MyDVDs program. I used it on my DVD collection, at that time.

Just found this site also.

Thanks MixMan. I've managed to whip up a little test app based on the MSDN link below which can use WMP to get the title of the DVD in the drive Smile

I found the WMP lookup stuff a bit useless to be honest. Missed a lot of stuff. Hence why I decided to use Amazon for lookups.

I missed this thread completely. If you are still interested in this, let me know. I did some research on it some time ago and I can pull the info without WMP. I never did anything with it because I couldn't find a complete schema for the xml. I have enough of it to be workable though.

I had something working using WMP Playlists and an interopt DLL but WMP 11 (on Win7) doesn't seem to work quite the same way and has broken it.

Would be interested in anything you can share.

ps. your PM inbox is full!
