This is a two tuner setup with an AMD 780G motherboard. As the disk approached full, I noticed some stuttering, so I decided to defrag the disk via the Microsoft tool. The process ran to completion, and displays "zero fragmented free space." However, the rest of the disk map is almost completely red, as if the files were still fragmented.

I have never encountered this before. I had always assumed that the residual red after a defrag run was due to very small files. However, the recordings directory should, I would think, be dominated by very large files, hence at the end of the run, the disk map should be predominantly blue.

How much free space do you have? You may not have enough free space to perform a defrag. I think you need 10-15%, I can't remember exactly.

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/docum...efrag.mspx

Quote:A volume must have at least 15% free space for defrag to completely and adequately defragment it. Defrag uses this space as a sorting area for file fragments. If a volume has less than 15% free space, defrag will only partially defragment it. To increase the free space on a volume, delete unneeded files or move them to another disk.
