Comcast Conversion Problems....

Hello all,

I've just made the cut over to the Comcast digital signal and now have DTAs (digital transport adapters) to contend with. I've read other postings and I didn't see anything that appeared (with my limited knowledge) to address my issue.

I'm using a Hauppauge HVR 1950 with Media MVP along with GBPVR version 1.0.16. The primary issue is that the feed from the Comcast tuner (DTA) into the HVR 1950 only shows as one channel on both the WinTv and GBPVR side. Only the Comcast remote control can change to a different channel. I've changed configuration settings in GBPVR's "Capture Sources" and "Recording Sources" to "Fixed channel" and set that channel to 3 but now that's the only station that is referenced across the board.

The question then is what settings allow for the HVR 1950 to change the channel on the Comcast tuner (DTA)? Are these settings on the Hauppauge side of can this be accomplished in GBPVR? Or is the situation worse then I'm able to see?

All help is appreciated....

To have the Comcast DTA change channels, you'll probably need to add an IR Blaster to your setup, which effectively allows the app to pretend to be Comcast remote control (and send fake number keys when it needs to).

On the Hauppauge website, it looks like the HVR1950 includes an IR Blaster, so you should have everything you'd need.

The first step would be getting the IR Blaster working in the Hauppauge BlastCFG utility.

If you only have a DTA and not a standard cable box, you should be able to receive all the same channels with a QAM tuner.

Thanks whurlston - once again I'll show my lack of knowledge on the subject and ask....do you mean I need to get a physical QAM tuner or am I using the "Clear QAM Source" in my Hauppauge HRV 1950 (WinTV) configuration? I ask because I have tried the "Clear QAM Source" and done a channel scan and have come up empty. BGD

Well, at this point I've tried pretty much all the options mentioned so far:

- the IR Blaster apparently cannot be properly sync'd with the DTA (Pace) box so when I use it to change the channel I lose the signal and just get that screen shot (splash screen)

- I've tried to use the QAM tuner, along with the adjustments possible from the qam.ini manger and my channel scans turn up empty

I cannot rule out user error on these attempts so if someone has been successful at getting WinTV to either see all the channels using (a) the QAM tuner (remember, I'm not receiving a HD signal) or (b) using the IR Blaster to work the Comcast DTA boxes....I'd love to hear how it was done...many thanks...BGD

PM me your zip code and I can see what channels you should get and at what frequencies. You can do it yourself at http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/channels_us

It looks like you are on standard cable frequencies so for Hauppauge devices, you need to use one of the "Center channel" options in the QAM.ini manager. Don't use the 70+ because you have channels below 70.

Thanks for checking this whurlston, even with those changes the channel scan turns up nothing. I'm thinking that Comcast has me on this one...thanks again, BGD
