What, in your experience, was the most difficult part(s) of setting up your GB-PVR?

Having voted for codec / playback issues, I've just remembered that recently an MS Vista update broke the whole system and I had to reformat, start again and hope to crap MS didn't break it again (which so far they've not).

But the biggest ongoing PITA has been HD sport playback. I've recently updated the PDVD8 installation to the lasted and have watched 4 out of 5 Torchwood recordings in HD and haven't noticed a single issue, so I hope it's finally sorted. But wont know for sure until the next sports game on HD. (I did record England v Andora for testing which I guess I could watch again to prove if everything is OK....)

It's a Multiple Choice Poll. You can vote for more than one thing if you want.

Not so much difficult as extremely tedious - mapping satellite channels (and to a lesser degree DVB-T)

I reckon that someone with more coding knowledge than I could create a standalone app that could simplify this. And maybe a re-scanner to spot transponder/PID changes.

i had codec issues panning etc
but for the past 3 months i havent been using gbpvr just watching normal tv (sold house gbpvr is in a storage container with everything else)
what i have realised is most of what i have been trying to fix is broadcast that way Smile
power dvd is the codec I settled on

remotes the only issue with me, i always forget how i disabled MCE from launching using my MCE remote each time i setup a new machine.
currently using EventGhost and have it working mostly, but sometimes "ctrl" is missed out and instead of skipping, it just adjusts the volume, i really need to have a fiddle with that.
and some plugins/skins can be a PITA to install
gbpvr its self i think is a breeze to setup and use (but ive been using it for like 5 years now...)

The (hidden) point of this poll was to see if parts of the wiki could be improved. What I find interesting is that so far most of the comments are to do with HTPC as a whole rather then GB-PVR directly. I for one think that codecs, ATI and graphics cards should all go to a corner and die.

I also ticked tuner/EPG as when I used GB-PVR as a neewbie I found the tuner/channel/EPG setup very confusing. Although re-reading the wiki the last few days I can see that a lot of new stuff is on there now which would have helped me back then - esp the Quick Start guide.

I voted for codec's.

It just seems that its different for everyone on what codec and renderer works for them and sometimes they are using the same hardware. This is what has taken the most time to focus on getting right and it was different for all 3 computes i have GBPVR set up on.

I also voted for untilities as i had stopped using compskip because i can not configure it correctly to work on my setup

Hi.
Biggest problem was my WinTV HVR-1300 - freeze my HTPC after wakeups
http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=16489
It takes me lot of time to locate problem and find solution.

Another story was OS, after trying Vista64&32 i ended on tuned XP, with perfect result (stability, speed,...)

Codecs was different story, i created my own SAF pack directly for HTPC to fill all my needs. I can say, it is now peace of cake to setup new HTPC using modified WinXP + SAF + GB-PVR, XBMC, AnyDVD + some small utilities.

Takes me 3/4 of year to solve all problems, but now my HTPC is preaty stable machine, no freazes at all and with perfect video quality for LiveTV and local media.

Right now for me, I am setting up with Windows 7 RC, and I have moved to satellite STB vs. analog cable. My old hardware is showing its age. Remote is a PIA, as I never needed the IR blaster before, and it is broken off the dongle.

I need a new remote, and possibly could use a new capture card, but I am still only recording an analog signal for now.

I also, like Reven, need to find out how to get the green button problem taken care of, but I figured I will wait until I get a new remote.
