I am trying to stream on the locaL network, but I get this error message: "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://stuen:7648. Check the log for details. I have installed VLC on both the server and the client pc. I have opend the port 7647 for GBPVR and 7648 for VLC on the server. EWA seems to work: I can see the tv-guide and so on.
I have attached the log file. Any idea's?

Is your L:\ drive on a NAS? If so you will need to setup access to it following these instructions.
Intel Core i7 @ 4.00GHz Skylake 14nm
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z170-DELUXE
Windows 10 Pro x64
PVR Software: NPVR 5.1.1
SiliconDust HDHomeRun HDHR5-4US Connect Quatro 4 Channel Tuner
Roku Ultra

The L:\ drive is just another partition on the same drive as the C:\ partition, so it should work. I don't know what could be wrong. Is it because the server PC has Windows XP SP3 and the client PC has Windows Vista?

Ok..with NAS ruled out the next easiest way to see what is going on is to go the the GBPVR host pc and open a command prompt in the vlc directoy (or incldude the vlc path with the vlc comand and parameters) and copy/past the parameters line from the EWA log file.

Below would be an example from the log you posted here (copied your path for VLC as well)

Code:
C:\Programmer\VideoLAN\Vlc\vlc --intf http "L:\MyVideos\Manual Recordings\Naerkontakt af 3 grad_20070406171300.mpg" :sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=128,width=320,height=213,acodec=mp4a,ab=32,channels=2}:standard{access=http,mux=ts,url=:7648} vlc:quit
or

Code:
C:\Programmer\VideoLAN\Vlc\vlc --intf http "L:\MyVideos\Flugten fra hønsegården\Flugten fra hønsegården.mpg" :sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=128,width=320,height=213,acodec=mp4a,ab=32,channels=2}:standard{access=http,mux=ts,url=:7648} vlc:quit

Let me know what error(s) show in the command window if any.

If no errors check your running processes and see if vlc is running.

If it is, then open up a browser on the GBPVR host machine and start an instance of VLC, click on File, Open Network Stream and set the protocol to HTTP and set the url to the url of your gbpvr host pc (i.e. gbpvr-host:7648)

If you get the stream then then you know your host is ok.

If hos is ok then go to the remote machine, start an instance of VLC, click on File, Open Network Stream and set the protocol to HTTP and set the url to the url of your gbpvr host pc (i.e. gbpvr-host:7648).

Let me know what happens.

I too am having what appears to be the same problem.

I have followed your latest instructions and can stream the video on localhost. When I try from the remote pc and use VLC debugging I get this:

[00000301] logger interface: using logger...
[00000306] main access error: Connection to jimmya.dyndns.org port 7648 failed:

[00000306] access_http access error: cannot connect to jimmya.dyndns.org:7648

[00000303] main input error: no suitable access module for `http://jimmya.dyndns
.org:7648'
[00000294] main playlist: nothing to play

Does this help?

It does....at least we know it is not an EWA issue.....it is something local on your network setup.

I see you are coming in from outside via dyndns.......my guess would be that you are not forwarding incoming port 7648 in your router to the gbpvr host PC. And/or your firewall software may not be set to allow 7648 from ip's outside of the local network (if you are only using Windows Firewall then this shouldn't be an issue).

Have you tried accessing the stream from inside your home network rather than externally using the ip or pc name of your gbpvr host machine?

UJB,

I have port forwarding and my xp firewall opened, see attached.

I can access the stream from inside my home network using the ip address or the computer name of my gbpvr host machine.

Externally, I can't stream using my DynDNS account or the true ip address.

Are there any logs that I can look at? I don't see any.

Thanks

UJB,

Got it working. Although I downgraded to VLC t0 0.86f, somehow it was still picking up version 1.0. I completely uninstalled VLC, installed 0.86f, rebooted (don't know if this was necessary) and now I am streaming OK, albeit pretty low quality.

Thanks for the guidance.

Thanks a lot. This worked for me, too. Except I didn't do the reboot. I have only tried from LAN, but I think this is a good step towards doing it off-site.
