im looking to control music playback on my HTPC via a webbrowser.

im not really fussed on what app i have to use, itunes, wmp, winamp.

but i want a good interface (all web2.0, and ajax, something that is easy to use) and easy to install.

i need to control music playback from various computers and have it played on my htpc which is connected to my sound system.

i thought it would be easy and lots of little asp.net/whatever apps out there but after an hour or so of hunting i havent found anything that is any good.

so anyone got any recommendations?

Firefox has FoxyTunes. Would that work for you?

squeezecenter looks good, but when the software squeeze player is running all audio from any other app is blocked.

i need to have it running on my htpc 24/7 and work alongside gbpvr. so i can just turn on my receiver and play music through it via another computer (i have a imac in the lounge i want to control it through, or control it through my iphone)

you can just stream it and then use web api to control it....but it's notwhere near as clean as runnin media files directly

i dont want to stream it, i want to play the file on the server, and just control playback on the remote browser.

yeah I know, that's the only problem with this scheme.

Um, winamp offers a remote browser, I assume itunes does as well

the only one i found for winamp that seemed usable, was ajaxamp, but i couldnt connect to that one (not even via localhost), i think the webserver it uses isnt very good.

just loaded ajax its sweet
change the server address to the ip of pc running winamp

just make sure you enter the address like this 192.168.1.xxx:5151/ in your web browser

either that or you router is doing something crazy

you have probably already moved on or have tried thes things but thought id share anyway

nah i couldnt even getting it working on localhost with the firewall turned off.

not sure what was going on, would be easier to debug if it was using IIS or a decent webserver.

i still havent got a setup i can use that well, the squeeze server client i got still kills audio from any other windows app when its running (well a lot of the time it does, so need to turn on tv and use mouse to set it up whenever i want to listen to music, so not an ideal solution).

i may have to write my own asp.net website to control wmp (shouldnt be hard, just dont have the time)
