My wife has been taping the same show ("The Tyra Banks Show") for some time
but today it didn't record. How do I debug this situation?
It appears that she has a mixture of recurring and "record once" entries
in gbpvr.db3 but nevertheless the recurring entry should have picked up the
show. However when I look at the logs it seems to indicate that the
recording wasn't scheduled. The show was on at the normal time
according to the TV guide.

Code:
2009-09-15 16:52:15.265    VERBOSE    [5]     - checking The Tyra Banks Show
2009-09-15 16:52:15.265    VERBOSE    [5]     - checking Oprah Winfrey
2009-09-15 16:52:15.265    VERBOSE    [5]    pending:  (3990)  Oprah Winfrey   2009-09-16 2:00 PM
2009-09-15 16:52:15.265    VERBOSE    [5]     - checking The Doctors
It checked the show but did not schedule it for today. It did schedule it to record tomorrow however.

Are you using Schedules Direct? If so, it may be possible that it was a repeat of a show you have recorded already?

No, I use mc2xml. Under what circumstances will GBPVR consider the
show to be a duplicate?

I think it only applies to Schedules Direct so I don't think that's it. sub may have to be the one to explain why it would not have been scheduled, sorry.

I see this sometimes myself, and it's always a complete mystery. I do have schedules direct with "don't record duplicates" set, but I know what to look for in the logs to see if a show was determined to be a duplicate. I've had a few cases just like this where there's no indication of why, the recording just doesn't get scheduled.

As for meccano, I don't think we can really help him though until he admits he's the one who records The Tyra Banks Show Big Grin

whurlston, thanks for the clue about duplicate recordings - looking in my xmltv.xml file I see where mc2xml includes unique episode numbers, e.g. for this particular inquiry:
<episode-num system="dd_progid">EP00767257.0708</episode-num>
However, this particular episode number is NOT duplicated in the same xmltv.xml file
nor does it appear in the PREVIOUS_EPISODE table of gbpvr.db3. The GBPVR logs
don't appear to contain any references to duplicate episodes.

johnsonx42, I'll never admit to recording this show. Dream on.

That episode number is used for "never record duplicates" when using Schedules Direct but I'm not sure if it's used with XMLTV. It might be though. If you didn't see it in the database as previously recorded, that wouldn't be the problem anyway though.

Was there anything else that was recorded during that timeslot? (Just to save me tracking it down in the logs.) If not, then I think it's definitely a question for sub and beyond my knowledge.

No, nothing else was reorded during this timeslot.
In any case, I now have 2 tuners so I can record 2 shows at once!

I have experienced the same problem and just had the same thing happen last night, but its very infrequent and sub was never able to advise as to the cause or a fix when i posted about it.

I also use mc2xml
