I recently bought a HDHomeRun and have been having very specific problems with GB-PVR.

First, I'm not connected to cable, only OTA channels.

All OTA channels display well in the Silicon Dust QuickTV program. However, using LiveTV, the NBC channel only has audio. All other channels display very well.

I'm not very knowlegeable about H.264, and the TS-Mux recordings I am getting are very jittery. I much prefer the higher quality recordings I am getting with either MS-DVR or Cyberlink mpeg-2. Both record all channels except the same NBC one that I only get audio with in LiveTV. When recording that channel, the recording format defaults back to .ts. It immediately reverts to my chosen mux when recording the other channels without any config changes.

I've parsed through the forum and have found all manner of threads seemingly almost addressing the problem I'm having, but I haven't found an answer. I've tried several different mpeg-2 decoders to address the playback issue, but the problem remains and I don't know this is even a relevant step.

I wouldn't mind the problem except that I bought the HDHomeRun for basically one reason - to be able to record the show Heroes in HD when I'm away. Of course, Heroes is on NBC... I am also trying SageTV and BeyondTV and playback and recordings work very smoothly with each - of course, I would much rather not spend $80 to $100 in order to record mainly one show.

Attached are fresh logs from after recording first the NBC channel and then the local CBS one.

My basic system specs -

Running XP Pro 64-bit on:
Phenom 9950 (2.6 G, quad core)
ATI X1900XTX
4 Gigs RAM

Any help would be most appreciated...

When your installed GB-PVR 1.4.7 did you install the new new vc runtime linked on the download link? I see this error

FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: GB-PVR PSI Parser

If you did run it, try the Re-register Filter option from the Start menu.

I noticed that in the log also - I did install the C++ runtime specified on the installation page (and linked to on that page). I'll give your suggestion a try and see what happens.

Additionally - my logs indicate many "findfilterbyname" failures. I don't know what to make of that...

GBPVR checks for many filters that may or may not be present on your system. Most of them can just be ignored.

The problem with your NBC feed is probably because GB-PVR Config mis-read the video stream id when it scanned the channel.
My tuning request for NBC looks like this:
Code:
T:36,0,0~P:3~TSID:291~V:49~A:52~PMT:48~PCR:49~N:>4.1  NBC-4LA (000(AC3))
Now of course your NBC and mine aren't the same station, so I'm not saying yours should be the same. But it's the number after the V: that is the video stream ID; in my area ALL of the stations use stream ID 49 for the primary channel's video feed... I don't know if that's an official standard, or just a common default. I'm guessing if you look at your NBC tuning request you'll see a 3 or 4 digit number there, which can't be right. If your other stations all seem to use 49, then try 49 for NBC as well (just be careful editing the tuning request - everything else must be in it's proper place).
If that doesn't work, you'll have to find out some other way. I don't have an HDHR, but I gather their viewing app may have that information for you. I use TSReader Lite, it gives a wealth of detail about the streams on each channel.

Regarding your "failed to find filter by name" error, some of those are normal - the program goes looking to see if you have certain filters installed. But the GB-PVR PSI Filter is necessary, so you do need to run the ReRegisterFilters.bat. Make sure you get a success message for EVERY filter that batch attemps to register.

Rescan your channels. I'm pretty sure that this mapping is wrong as johnsonx42 said:

Code:
T:44,0,0~P:3~TSID:1899~[color=Red][B]V:1401~VTYPE:H264[/B][/color]~A:52~PMT:48~PCR:49~N:>11.1  KVLY-TV (eng(AC3))

I'm pretty sure it should be:
Code:
T:44,0,0~P:3~TSID:1899~[color=red][B]V:49[/B][/color]~A:52~PMT:48~PCR:49~N:>11.1  KVLY-TV (eng(AC3))

You can manually edit it and try it.

Thanks Johnsonx42 - I actually like my install of 64 bit XP quite a lot, but there certainly are support issues. I think Vista's junk, and I'm eagerly awaiting an officially released Windows 7 (I'm too busy for playing with pre-release Windows). However, I think I've identified the major part of the problem...

When running XP x64, there are apparently two versions of regsvr32.exe - one in the Windows\System32 folder and another in the Windows\SysWow64 folder. A default call to regsvr32 goes to the 64 bit version of the program in the System32 folder. Apparently registering 32 bit filters with this version is problematic at best. Therefore, I had to go into the ReRegisterFilters.bat file and insert C:\Windows\SysWow64\regsvr32 in place of just plain regsvr32 in order to register the files (which weren't registered during installation...). Now the filters are at least registered. (johnsonx42, I suppose this sort of validates your feelings about XP x64 :-)

As to the issue that Johnsonx42 brought up concerning the NBC feed - well, I think that makes sense - something had to trigger GB-PVR to treat it differently than the other channels.

I'm going to tinker a bit now that the filters are registered and then crash. I'll report what happens later tomorrow.

THANKS for all the helpful input thus far - you have all been really great.

OK, I've re-scanned and then manually edited the channel entry in the following files:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Devnz\GBPVR\BDA\SCAN-1.cache & SCAN-2.cache

The entries for the problem channel did have the same text as before. However, after editing the text, inserting the information you suggested, whurlston, stopping and restarting the recording service, and even rebooting, checking that the .cache files still contained the modified text, and recording the channel, it still records it to a .ts file and the the service log entry still shows the original entry for the channel.

Did I edit the wrong files? I couldn't find any other file that appeared to store the channel information.

Here's information from TSReader Lite regarding the channel...

Channel 3
Service Name: KVLY-TV
TSID: 1899 (0x076b) NTSC: 11 ATSC: 58 ND FARGO
Channel Number: 11.1
Carrier Frequency: 0
Modulation Mode: ATSC (8 VSB)
Source ID: 1
Descriptor: ATSC Extended Channel Name Descriptor
Extended Channel Name: KVLY-TV
Fargo, ND
Descriptor: ATSC Service Location Descriptor
Service Location Descriptor:
PCR PID 0x0031
Stream Type 0x02 (MPEG-2 Video) ESPID = 0x0031 Language =
Stream Type 0x81 (AC-3 Audio) ESPID = 0x0034 Language = eng

I'm still baffled - why does GB-PVR insist on the H.264 designation...?
