Next version of Music Plugin and MediaScanner

Bekken and I have been discussing the features in next version of the Music Plugin and MediaScanner. We have planned to move Cover Art downloading from the Music Plugin and have the MediaScanner do the job in the background. We have also planned to have MediaScanner to download Movie cover art, TV Channel logos, Radio logos, Web Logos in the background. It will also be able to export and import playlists.

For us in small non-english speaking countries not all art work can be found on Amazon or IMDB, so we would like you to help out with contributing cover art and other icons and logos.
You can help by uploading your music icon art, tv logos, video art ...etc, so the icon download feature will be useful for non english countries. I have made an upload page on my home server and you should be able to upload files up to 100MB of size.
We hope that you have liked the Music Plugin and would like to see it improve with more functions. Contribute your "art" on this page.
You can see in the video popup what bad quality IMDB has on the artwork, so please upload quality artwork.

If you are looking for a wishlist items to a nice plugin I'd still like this view http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=3...stcount=60 instead of the same art many times.

Also queuing of albums would something I'd use a lot.

I would also be interested in a common scanner and database(s). But for pictures and video in addition to music.

Even thought of looking at the squeezecenter db? I did have a look about it, took away the worry on having to deal with files, and gave you the benefit of streamed/web based interface for music.....

I'd very much like to see the ability to simply "play all" in any folder including the top level, with a random or sequential order. If it is possible to do now, then sorry I haven't worked it out!

Not a bad idea but staying aligned with sub's SQLlite will be a challenge. It's already going to be enough of problem for plugin developers since sub wants to upgrade his version maybe before 1.5

That's exactly what Jukebox does, no playlists to make, no libraries to keep up to date, folder based and just plays music!

Yes perhaps. Pity, looks like squeezecenter used to be sqllite, but has moved to mysql recently.

The current MediaScanner, scans the picture libraries and create thumbnails and a folder image, with the first 4 pictures in the library.
So adding tables in the database for pictures and videos is a natural next step.
Creating picture playlists/albums, adding comments to the pictures is an idea. I'm looking for a .net library that can both read and write exif data.
Video is more "complex", since there are so many categories and sub categories. TV recordings, DVDs, Movies, Music Videos, Home made movies, video clips......and so on.
Metadata for each category is different...kind of.

The current Music plugin, queue song in current folder and plays the, but it doesn't queue the songs in sub folders.
Request has been random play and more queueing.
The Music plugin already plays videos if you have a library with music videos, added to the music directories.
