since a fresh install of GBPVR 1.4.7 digital TV no longer looks good when played by VMR9. most channels often get distorted with higher levels of lightness or snapshots of other channels.
I discovered that EVR renderer doesn't have this problem and works great. however it takes a few seconds of stuttering to "catch up" when starting GBPVR app, then it works fine.

Are there any better video renderers that run with GBPVR?

VMR9 Full Screen Exlusive is said to be best for XP and EVR is said to best for Vista. In any event, the renderer is not something that you can install. The only options are those listed in the Config drop down list (Apologies if that is not what you were asking).

The "snapshots of other channels" is baffling. How can that happen? Tv tuner drivers?

OK, thanks. formerly I used VMR9 in VIsta with zero problems. started using EVR only because VMR9 started giving me a headache.
what i'm saying is that "baffling" happens on VMR9 (looks good with EVR) only in latest GBPVR and i think it doesn't take place (same drivers) with former GBPVR 1.3.11 - have never seen it before, didn't double check the drivers though.

Nothings changed on this front in 1.4.7. It should work as well with VMR9 as it has in previous releases.

Are you saying that VMR9 FSE is best for XP because XP doesn't get evr unless you upgrade to service pack3 or is it because VMR9 is better for XP even if you do have access to EVR?

I have the EVR and it is working great - a really sharp picture. In fact, for this upgrade, it seems that the picture is sharper on my non-HD screen. However, if the common understanding is that vmr9 is still better for XP, I will switch back (particularly if there are hidden problems with XP and EVR that I haven't yet experienced.

Rules:

XP+VMR9 FSE = DXVA(1.0), working DVD navigation + DXVA(1.0), no tearing (for me still the best option for HTPC/PVR)
XP+EVR = no DXVA, DVD will not even start in EVR
Vista/Win7 + VMR9 = no DXVA
Vista/Win7 + EVR = DXVA(2.0), but broken DVD navigation + DXVA(2.0)

BTW - DXVA

Are you sure about that? I run Win7+VMR9 and I'm pretty sure I get DXVA; my CPU use while playing HD video is less than 10%.
