Hi

Just installed gbpvr 1.4.7 with hauppage hvr-1600 as a single capture source "hvr1600_analog"...

Everything went fine in configuring and using...recorded a few shows...till I rebooted the system...

On every reboot the hvr_1600 capture source isnt seen by GBPVR or the recording service

checking the recording service status shows 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8...with nothing for these sources

GBPVR wont show live TV...

restarting the recording service or starting gbpvr config and just exiting (config fields shows up with proper settings, channels, epg config etc...!) after a machine reboot brings everything to normal : GBPVR will show live tv...recording service will work and list capture source 1 as HVR_1600 analog...all everything works...

Tried a few things...no success so far...every reboot will make me loose my hvr_1600 capture source...until I go into config and exit or restart the recording service...

Ideas?

Not enough details really, but a couple of thoughts.
Search for multiple copies of config.xml or is Vista UAC getting in the way with protection? (not a user of V here, but I think it uses a 'sandboxed' copy under certain circumstances).

Edit, found an example for Vista - have a look at http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?p=257237

This machine runs winxp sp2 not vista...no multiples copies of config.xml...looking into more stuff such has file config.xml date-time stamp and everything looks correct when I access the CONFIG and exit and its saved...

its like if the config.xml file is ignored when the computer reboots and gbpvr and the recording service starts during booting....until the service is retstarted or the config menu is accessed...then its taken into account...

Thanks

Information about capture sources is stored in gbpvr.db3. I look at it using the free version of ...

http://www.sqliteexpert.com/download.html

I have no idea why your capture source is disappearing. Is there anything shown in Recordings after a reboot? The stuff about recordings is also stored in the database.

recordings work fine, everything seems perfect until a machine reboot...then i must manually restart recording service or open close gbpvr config for my hvr_1600 to be listed as a source in the recording service status or to record or watch live tv in gbpvr...

I misread the symptoms ... my reading, not your writing.

Latest drivers?

Does the 1600 show okay in Device Manager after a reboot and before doing anything with GBPVR?

Opening and OKing the config app restarts the recording service, so it looks like recordingservice has a problem until you manually restart it. You might want to compress and post all the files in your logs folder after re-booting, starting/stopping pvrx2, manually restarting the recording service and then starting pvrx2 again.

You might also want to check if GBPVRRecordingService is running right after a re-boot.

looking at the event viewer logs I see 3 'bad' events likely related to this situation:

I see a service called DVB-S USB BOX failing to start (that box was removed) and 2 other messages at exactly the same time showing the GBPVR recording service failing.

X DVB-S USB BOX service failed....the device isnt there anymore...
X timeout GBPVR recording service to connect
X GBPVR recording service failed

This machine had a DVB-S usb box connected to it recently and what I remember was a very long and painfull install with obscure drivers to make it work...

I am trying to track down where this is starting from and trying to disable it. I think this could be the problem.

It's great that you've got a plan - might still be useful to post your GBPVR logs though - usually someone on the forum will spot something.
