With the news that Ceton (http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/09/10/han...ard-tuner/), Hauppauge (http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/09/12/hau...ard-tuner/) and others will be releasing CableCard tuners usable by Windows 7 media center, I wondered if GraphRecorder or another component could be rigged up to call Windows MC to create recordings and then feed them into GB-PVR.

Looks like there's a SageTV component designed to do just that:

I would be ecstatic to get my FiOS cable card recordings into GB-PVR.

The SageTV component would only work with unencrypted channels which any QAM tuner will do that and will do it much cheaper. With the expected firmware update for CableCard tuners, it may be possible to use the SageTV component for encrypted channels that are "Copy Freely" but there is no way of knowing until the firmware is released.

I looked at cable card tuners a couple of months ago and found that the technology isn't new. In fact, unless these cable card tuners are capable of SDV then they won't do you much good for digital cable. Are these cards capable of SDV?

The current batch of cards are not SDV capable. The next version that is currently planned are supposed to be SDV capable.

I guess there isn't much for me to get excited for then because the cable company here uses SDV. Sad

I don't think in general that there is much to get excited about in this thread. SageTV is good software but the users have a tendency to overreact to new features before the limits are known. If the DRM was as easy to remove in 7mc as this makes it appear, CableCard wouldn't be available.

I have 1 internal and 1 external cable card tuners (1 external died and I replaced it with the internal). We're still waiting for the latest firmware to come out that will allow use in non OEM systems and it was suppose to be out with W7 release but so far, it's not been seen.
Lots of talk and most who say they will have a tuner out in later 2009 have changed to early 2010. We still have lots to learn on these cards but there is a firmware version that will allow SDV but I don't know if it's freely available. Sorry, I can't say more.

Ah yeah, it's a firmware update that allows SDV, not the new tuners. My mistake.
