I recently switched from SageTV to GB-PVR for several reasons. I like that there are a lot of independent developers out there developing add-ons.

One question on searching. SAGETV has search options based on keywords. For instance, if I put the word Black Eyed Peas in the search bar, it will tell me every upcoming show in the database where they will appear (or anyone named black eyed peas will appear). This is an awesome function.

SAGETV also allows you to pick favorites based on Actor or even Genre. Does anyone know if there is something developed that allows you to do the same with GB-PVR?

A couple of options.

1. Download the FastFind plugin from the Wiki. It'll add keyword searching in title or description.

2. Download XRecord v16. Includes Fast Find and a more enhanced recordings manager.

3. Download CDK Scheduler. It is a utility application, that has a link into XRecord for scheduling recordings. It has the ability to schedule reoccuring recordings based on keyword searches. Also implements duplicate checking, and priority scheduling.

As for actor or genere, you will probably have to wait a little while.  Very doable if you use zap2it.  Just need to put the hooks in fastfind and the CDK scheduler.

And write an interface for the zap2it metadata database. Plus fix some minor bugs.

You both dso so much for the GBPVR community, so I appreciate the quick response. One question on plugins - sometime I can get them to work easily, sometimes I cant./ Is there a place I can go to get insturctions on how to install them? For instance, these files go in these directories, etc?

The instructions arent always included with the plugin.

Speaking of Xrecord 16, it looks like it is no longer configured via the config.exe program. I know I caught something that said to edit the xml file.

To install plugins typically you just unzip into the devnz\gbpvr directory.

jwthirty, If you have problems with any plugin let us know. Maybe we will update the wiki site with more details for other users.

XRecord 16, actually I have never got a chance to make any of my plugins configurable via config.exe. I just edit the skin.xml

I have been meaning to abstract user data out of there, but havent had the time.

aegisx,
The 3rd piece should come into play in about a week. [Image: smile.gif]

Unless there is a new bug, you should just be able to open config.exe and type the new password in the box.

jwthirty,

The next version of fast find will support search by cast. If you have zap2it and the zapimport tool (will be posted with the new fastfind).

Hopefully I will add search by genere soon after.
