Hi,

I am new here. Great forum! I did a search but didn't come up with adequate answers.

A two and a half hour movie took 9 Gb of space. Is that normal with the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2?

I am running Vista 64-bit with Windows Media Center. By the way, I don't have GB-PVR. Do I need to install it? What more would I gain by doing so?

Thanks.

You could easily get 2 1/2 hour HD movies that take more than 9GB, in fact a high bitrate SD file of that duration could probably fill an 8GB DVD-9 disk.

Yeah, except that the movie was not HD, nor digital. Just a regular analog movie.

But your tuner has to convert that analog signal into a digital data stream in order to store it on the hard drive. My tuner is set (through GBPVR) to record mpg2 files at a medium quality bit rate and uses about 1.8 GB of disk space per hour. Higher bit rates will consume disk space at an even faster rate.

On a clear disk, you can seek forever...
