Wiki Glossary Christmas Calendar

Well all I've asked Santa for this year is to sort out the GBPVR Wiki Glossary page that some of us have worked very hard on here:

It is now 'live' in as much as it is listed in main index under manual with a link to glossary.

I worked out that with the missing entries if we could fill a letter a day that would take us up until Christmas Eve. Then I could relax on the 25th.

I know that most don't bother with documentation threads but in Christmas spirit! Anyone?

I am ignorant in this field, but may I suggest to make external links to Wikipedia pages. In this specific case I found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Interface, which has a lot of relevant information. The following description could be copied from there "The Common Interface is an extensible digital interconnect found in the digital TV market."

Common Interface in the GBPVR context is when a tuner works for both digital and analog (a hybrid tuner). An example is the Hauppauge HVR-1250. A hybrid tuner can record Digital or Analog but not both at the same time and since GBPVR uses separate device types for analog and digital, the "Common Interface" setting is used to tell it that it is a hybrid tuner. This way, GBOVR does not attempt to record an analog station on that tuner if it is already recording a digital station.

Short Answer for WIKI would be:

Used to link a Digital (BDA) Recording device to an Analog Recording device in the case of hybrid tuners (which can record digital or analog signals but not both at the same time).

Sorrry whurlston, but that is incorrect. There is no specific term I've applied to what you describe ("hybrid tuner" is probably the most accurate though).

Common Interface is only relevant in the DVB parts of the world, and refers to support for pay television CAM modules (like a PCMCIA card that can be plugged into a reader and used to decrypt channels).

may I suggest to make external links to Wikipedia pages.

thanks pz1, links could be added later to give more detail but am not sure we need to as this really is a quick getting to know you familiarisation thing for users. Either way I think it is nice to propogate the definitions as they are for now for a quick reference.

Thanks to elves that PM'd I'm now pretty much up to 'F' but as I don't own an NMT I wondered does the default dongle that installs with GBPVR work with an NMT? If not then dongle description is wrong. Anyone?
