Has anyone been looking closer at the Asus O!Play HDP-R1 mediaplayer? It has some rather impressive specs. considering the price:

i always liked that combo usb/esata port...Smile
upcoming usb3 is interesting, both power and signal on one connection..i think maybe it can be an actual esata as well..

but i think that Asus unit has the wrong chip inside..tons of them showing up thesedays really cheap..look for sigma chips inside..[i forget the #]

I just purchased this. Not sure if it will work as a PVR but as a media player I'm pretty happy. It even plays ISO files so I can rip dvds and not lose the menu functions and the quality is excellent.

Does it have, or can it have an internal harddisk? I didn't quite get it from the specs...

External drives only.

It's the Patriot Box Office that has the internal drive capability.

There are more devices coming to market soon that will allow it as well.
