OK, i'm getting the 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' error like many ppl have experience. I checked the windows file sharing, my client can access the server file. i turned off both firewall on server and client. still no go. run pvrx2.exe on client as admin, no go. I tried installing different decoders, still no go. what gives?

i was able to watch tv on the server but not on the client. does pvrx2.exe needs to be running on the server? actually i tried that too, still no go.

pvrx2.exe.log isn't particularly helpful....

What is the text in the error message box? It'll often give a stack trace etc.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I had this problem too and have just fixed it.

At the server, I had shared the GBPVR directory (as per the wiki) which was located in C:\program files\....

Turns out Windows doesn't easily let you share anything in system folders like Program Files, even though it all looks OK. I de-installed GB-PVR then re-installed it to a different location (away from system folders), shared the new location and pointed the client to the new share.

Now the client loads OK, with no errors.

I don't see Live TV at the client though, so that's my new challenge....

I have already installed GBPVR under somewhere other tahn "program files" on my server. Didn't work for me.

Maybe i'll try the same on my client also but I dont see how that would make a difference.

use the ip number of the server machine rather than the name
turn off firewalls for testing
sign in with exact same user name on both machines
share the gbpvr folder on server machine as a separate share with full permissions

does the client work if you set it as a server then just add the video directories of the server to the machine that was the client machine

are you sure you are selecting the gbpvr database on the server machine

can you explain again exactly what is working and what isnt
can you watch recorded shows
is it just live tv that is not working
