It is no secret but a couple of Forum members were looking at updating the pmwiki look.

The one that seems acceptable is here:

http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/Cookbook/TriadSkin

Is it worth the work?

The Triad skin seems to have a lot of options. I do not yet know if I must consider that as a pro or a con.
The list of possible skins may give rise to lengthy discussions. At the end of the day it is all a matter of personal taste, but we may settle on a number of criteria first.
Attractiveness is important, but the major challenge is to keep the wiki up to date. So simplicity for authors should prevail. Next are the human factors. The pages have to be easily readable for a broad audience. New screens have a high resolution, which tend to yield long lines of text. It is a known fact that long lines are difficult to navigate. Many modern websites have become much narrower in the past years. Web designers tend to use very small fonts in these narrow pages. Yet the readability of those pages is remarkably good. Lean simple layouts with not to many distractions at the sides apparently do well in communicating.
Hope these considerations help in finding the right direction.

For me; what makes the Triad skin attractive is it's customizability. The option is there, for visitors, to alter text sizing, fonts, page sizing and colours - all stored in a cookie for future visits. Both the left and right panels can be hidden (I've suggested having all the customizing options in the right panel and hiding it by default).

I totally agree with this. Here the Triad skin's customizability comes in. We should be able to create several page sizes (fixed and fluid), so that visitors can then selected their preference.

It's real early days yet, but we should be able to customize the look of skin (hopefully Smile). Perhaps complimenting the new gb webpage.

I've attached a rough screenshot to give folks an idea.

I am all in favor of anything a user suggests to improve the look and feel of the wiki. We go through spurts of active "go getter" activity that perhaps is under-appreciated by many.

I'm with Fatman_do, this is a spurt, there are only 3 or 4 peple that are activated by this. Under-Appreciation is a major factor in whether this idea just dies or may be pursued!

1) We know that gbpvr wiki will never be a manual
2) The forums are so good with help is even a manual needed?
3) blader suggested updating the skin as a possibility I took that on board
4) I noticed that latest v of pmwiki was out of date
5) So is it really worth changing anything or just keep it 'as it is'?

cheers

Steeb, thank you for your efforts. Don't be discouraged. It is a task that really doesn't invoke alot of response no matter where on the web it happens. Do it for your own self satisfaction. Don't be discouraged, and treat it like a dictatorship.

Charge ahead!
Give no quarter!
Claim "This is how it will be!".
Enjoy the cowering of the masses.

At least that is how I treat it....Big Grin
